Thanh Hoa - Faced with the complicated developments of the crack on the hill in Nhu Thanh district, the authorities are implementing urgent measures to respond.

According to the People's Committee of Nhu Thanh district, due to the impact of storms No. 3 and No. 4 and the floods after the storm, many long cracks appeared in the hilly area of Dong Phong village, Phuong Nghi commune.

Up to now, the crack on the hillside is about 50m long, the largest width is about 40cm, some sections have collapsed and subsided from 1-1.2m.

In the area where the landslide occurred, the land subsidence was about 30m above the inter-district road below, the top of the hill was about 50m high, there were many cracks at the foot of the hill, the hillside was steep. These cracks pose a direct risk to the lives and property of 5 households/22 people and affect people and vehicles when participating in traffic on the inter-district road (from Phuong Nghi commune, Nhu Thanh district to Thuong Ninh commune, Nhu Xuan district).

Landslides and subsidence in the above area may continue to develop in a complex and unpredictable manner, especially when heavy rain occurs.

Faced with the above situation, the People's Committee of Thanh Hoa province has issued a decision to declare an emergency situation of landslides and subsidence in this hill area.

The Chairman of the People's Committee of Thanh Hoa province requested functional agencies and Nhu Thanh district to immediately deploy necessary measures to ensure the safety of people and property of households living in areas affected by landslides and land subsidence; organize the evacuation/relocation of households to safe places, absolutely not letting people stay in dangerous areas.

Set up fixed barriers on inter-district roads at risk of being affected; place markers and warning signs within the danger zone; build temporary roads for people and vehicles to pass through, assign people to guard dangerous areas and guide and regulate traffic to ensure safety and smooth traffic flow.

Closely monitor and observe the development of landslides and land subsidence and promptly report when dangerous situations occur; inform and propagate to households and units in the area to proactively prevent; absolutely do not allow people, vehicles, and livestock to enter dangerous areas, especially when heavy rain occurs.

Urgently develop, approve and implement response plans according to the "4 on-site" principle to limit the development of landslides and land subsidence and ensure the safety of life and property of the state and people.

Regarding long-term measures, the Chairman of Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee assigned the People's Committee of Nhu Thanh district to conduct a survey and specific assessment of the scope, scale, and level of landslides and land subsidence and propose appropriate solutions, and report to competent authorities for consideration and decision.
