Faced with the complicated developments of Typhoon Fengshen (Typhoon No. 12) moving rapidly into the East Sea, people in the eastern coastal villages of Gia Lai province have proactively brought their boats ashore to minimize damage.
On the morning of October 21, in Nhon Chau commune - the only island commune of the province, local authorities, armed forces and people urgently trimmed trees, cleared obstacles, and moved their basket boats and fishing boats to safe shelters.

The leader of Nhon Chau Commune People's Committee said that the locality has activated the entire storm prevention system, mobilizing forces to be ready to respond according to the "4 on-site" motto, with the highest goal of ensuring the safety of people and property.
In Tan Phung coastal village (Phu My Dong commune), hundreds of fishermen have moved their boats ashore, fixing them to the roots of trees in the protective forest. Some households also pull their basket boats up high hills to prevent high tides and strong winds from causing large waves.
Mr. Dinh Hai Long (born in 1969, fisherman in Tan Phung village) said that as soon as they heard the news of storm No. 12, the people proactively brought their boats ashore to take shelter. "If the tide rises, we will continue to move the boat to the Tan Phung fishing port area to be safer," he said.

In the face of the above situation, the People's Committee of Gia Lai province issued an urgent telegram, requesting localities to count and manage vessels operating at sea; absolutely not allow fishing vessels to move into dangerous areas; regularly update the direction of the storm to promptly notify fishermen.
As of 10:00 on October 20, the whole province has about 4,800 ships and boats anchored at the wharf with nearly 33,680 workers. More than 1,000 ships operating at sea have received warnings and instructions to avoid the storm, none of them are in the danger zone.
Although not directly affected by storm No. 12, Gia Lai province still proactively deploys response measures before, during and after the storm.
Mr. Pham Anh Tuan - Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Head of the Gia Lai Provincial Civil Defense Command - emphasized that storm No. 12 is likely to cause heavy rain, landslides, and flooding. Localities must maintain 24/7 duty, prepare plans to evacuate people from high-risk areas, and ensure safe storm shelters for boats.
The province is also considering activating the Forward Command Department in the Hoai Nhon area (adjacent to Quang Ngai) to direct direct response if the situation goes badly.
The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested sectors and localities to develop a disaster prevention plan for 2025, closely following the "4 on-site" motto and flexibly adjusting it according to each specific situation.
