Vice Chairman of Vinh Long Provincial People's Committee Chau Van Hoa has just signed a decision approving the Plan to implement the National Target Program on Sustainable Poverty Reduction in 2025 in Vinh Long province.
In 2024, poverty reduction work in Vinh Long achieved many positive results. After the merger, the whole province still has 12,249 poor households (accounting for 1.23%) and 20,538 near-poor households (2.07%). Support policies are implemented synchronously and promptly, from infrastructure investment to livelihood support.
44 civil works in disadvantaged areas have been completed, more than 400 production models and agricultural development projects have supported over 4,200 households. 30 job fairs attracted more than 12,000 participants, along with hundreds of training courses, policy dialogues and communication on poverty reduction held widely.
Thousands of poor households and people in difficult circumstances have received preferential loans, support for house building, health insurance cards, scholarships and gifts. The total resources mobilized for the program last year reached more than 4,325 billion VND, contributing to creating a clear change in people's lives.
Entering 2025, the final year of the socio-economic development plan for the period 2021 - 2025, the province aims to continue to reduce multidimensional, inclusive and sustainable poverty, limit falling back on poverty and support people to improve their living standards.
Vinh Long strives to reduce 0.5% of poor households, including 0.5% of poor Khmer households, while reducing 0.5% of near-poor households according to the national multidimensional poverty standard. The province also aims to increase the number of poor households by 1% to 1.5% to have full access to basic social services.
To achieve this goal, Vinh Long has implemented many key projects.
Project 1 invests in socio-economic infrastructure in particularly disadvantaged communes in coastal areas, riverside and coastal areas, with 34 transportation works, electricity and climate change adaptation works, with a total cost of more than 63 billion VND.
Project 2 focuses on diversifying livelihoods, supporting startups, developing poverty reduction models for poor households, near-poor and people with disabilities, with a capital of more than 54.6 billion VND.
Project 3 supports agricultural - forestry - fishery production for poor, near-poor households, and newly escaped poverty households through technical training, providing seeds, materials and connecting product consumption, while improving nutrition for pregnant women and children, with a total capital of more than 41 billion VND.
Project 4 aims to develop sustainable vocational education and employment, vocational training for the poor and connect jobs at home and abroad, with a budget of more than 32 billion VND.
Project 6 focuses on poverty reduction communication, organizing a movement for the whole country to join hands for the poor, with a total capital of more than 8.4 billion VND.
Project 7 improves capacity, supervises and evaluates the program through training, seminars, builds a database and conducts periodic inspections, with a budget of more than 18 billion VND.
To effectively implement the program, the province requires departments, branches and localities to coordinate closely, transparently and avoid spreading in implementation. Inspection and supervision work has been strengthened, while promoting propaganda, arousing people's self-reliance, combining the mobilization of more social resources and taking advantage of international cooperation in technology and finance.
The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development is assigned as the presiding agency, coordinating with relevant departments, branches and People's Committees of districts, towns and cities. The provincial Social Policy Bank continues to implement preferential credit programs for poor, near-poor households and households newly escaped poverty. The Fatherland Front and mass organizations participated in monitoring to ensure the program was implemented in accordance with its goals, practically and effectively.
