Consumers are changing their mindset
After giving birth to his first son, Mr. Duc Hoang (30 years old, Thai Nguyen) realized the need for a car to serve family chores. After researching about old and new cars within his ability, Mr. Hoang decided to choose an electric car for him and his wife to travel.
"I used to be a driver so I have experienced many different types of cars. However, when calculating the costs, I realized that an electric car is a reasonable choice for me and my family at the present time" - Mr. Hoang shared with Lao Dong.
Not only Mr. Hoang, many users are considering electric cars as a priority choice. This is clearly shown when calculating the cumulative 10 months of the year, VinFast has delivered more than 51,000 electric cars of all kinds, ranking No. 1 in the market, surpassing foreign car brands such as Toyota, Hyundai... In November, with sales of more than 16,000 cars, the Vietnamese electric car company not only firmly holds the No. 1 position but also sets a new record in the Vietnamese automobile industry.
One of the main reasons for this shift in thinking is that young people today are increasingly considering environmental protection as one of the important motivations when looking to buy a car. This is also a global trend towards more sustainable, greener transportation.
In addition, the operating costs of electric vehicles are also more economical when compared to traditional vehicles, especially in the context of high fuel prices. The introduction of a variety of electric vehicle models in different segments has expanded the choices for consumers.
"Not only new electric cars, but also the demand for used electric cars is increasing, especially when electric car charging stations have become much more popular," said Anh Tuan (28 years old, Thai Nguyen) - an employee of a showroom specializing in selling used cars in Thai Nguyen.
Global trend
Not only in Vietnam, global electric vehicle sales continue to grow strongly in 2024, with an increase of more than 30% in September. According to data from Rho Motion, total global electric vehicle sales reached 1.69 million units in September. China continues to be the largest market with sales increasing sharply by 47.9%, reaching 1.12 million vehicles.
In Europe, electric vehicle sales reached 300,000 units, up 4.2%.In particular, the UK market grew by 24%, while Germany, Italy and Denmark also recorded positive recoveries.
In the US and Canada, electric vehicle sales increased by 4.3%, or 150,000 units, in September.By the end of October, more than 1 million new electric vehicles had been sold in the US, up 6.7% compared to the same period last year.
The growth was driven largely by incentives and flexible leasing options that made electric vehicles more accessible to consumers. The average selling price of a new electric vehicle in October was $56,902, down 1.2% from the previous month. The used electric vehicle market also boomed, with sales up 39.5% year-over-year, demonstrating the growing demand for zero-emission electric vehicles.
The average time to sell a new electric vehicle in the US has dropped to 101 days, while used electric vehicles are selling faster with an average inventory time of 48 days, showing that electric vehicles are gaining more trust from consumers.
Experts predict that electric vehicle sales in Europe will reach 3.78 million units in 2025 and 9.78 million units in 2030. Although there are many fluctuations ahead, the steady growth of electric vehicles globally confirms that this is still an inevitable trend in the context of the increasingly accelerated green transition.
