On the afternoon of November 12, speaking with Lao Dong reporter, Mr. Nguyen Van Phat - Vice Chairman of Quynh Phu District People's Committee (Thai Binh Province), confirmed that he had just signed and issued Document No. 1595/UBND-TNMT directing the Party Committee - People's Committee of An Ninh Commune and heads of relevant units to focus on handling environmental pollution from waste collection and burial sites in An Ninh Commune according to the content reported by Lao Dong Newspaper.
"Immediately after receiving the information reflected by the Newspaper, the leaders of the District Party Committee - District People's Committee directed me and the Head of the District Department of Natural Resources and Environment to go directly to the locality to check and verify the reflected contents. The initial inspection results showed that the content reflected by the Newspaper and the people and voters was correct. Therefore, we requested and directed the Party Committee - People's Committee of An Ninh commune and related agencies and units to urgently fix and handle the problem, with the completion time before November 17. After having the results, we will inform and respond to the Newspaper and readers," said Mr. Phat.
Accordingly, due to the specific characteristics of An Ninh commune, there is no centralized incinerator, and domestic waste collected from households in the commune is not within the waste treatment planning area at the centralized waste treatment plant located in Quynh Coi town, so the solution is to level, bury, and plant trees to minimize and limit environmental pollution, and reduce the load on landfills.
In addition, one of the most important measures is to tighten management, increase monitoring and supervision, strictly prohibit some individuals from dumping industrial waste and medical waste indiscriminately at collection sites and burying domestic waste; strictly prohibit, detect and strictly handle acts of burning waste that cause smoke and environmental pollution.
It is known that, implementing the direction of the People's Committee of Quynh Phu district, this afternoon the People's Committee of An Ninh commune has hired and contracted with a number of excavator units to level and bury the overloaded domestic waste from tomorrow morning, November 13.
Earlier, on the same morning (November 12), Lao Dong Newspaper published an article "People in a commune in Thai Binh call for help because of smoke and pollution from the landfill" reflecting the opinions, recommendations, and even calls for help from some residents and voters of An Ninh commune (Quynh Phu district, Thai Binh province) about the current situation in the commune where there are many gathering and burying sites for household waste, but the waste is not treated according to regulations, most of it is burned in the open, causing thick smoke and a pungent smell, seriously affecting the lives, activities, and health of the people.
The people urgently called for help because they believed that the above situation had been happening for a long time. In the meetings with voters, they had repeatedly reflected and petitioned the commune government, but they had not received any attention or timely direction to resolve the issue.
