On June 17, information from the Nghe An Hematology - Blood Transfusion Center said that the unit is currently seriously lacking blood sources to supply to hospitals.
Nghe An Hematology - Blood Transfusion Center is responsible for supplying blood to 48 medical facilities in Nghe An and Ha Tinh, currently only meeting 50 - 60% of treatment needs, forcing hospitals to handle it from many sources, including asking patients' relatives to donate blood instead.
At Nghe An Oncology Hospital, only emergency cases are given proper and sufficient blood. Cancer patients or patients with chronic diseases often have to wait or ask relatives to donate blood to have enough amount needed for treatment.

Nghe An General Hospital is also in a state of prolonged anemia. Since May, the hospital has had to request support for nearly 1,000 units of blood from the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion. However, the blood supply is still not enough to ensure regular treatment needs, so it is only given priority to emergency cases, while other treatment cases are forced to rely on blood donation by family members.
Mr. Nguyen Van V - a lung cancer patient - had to wait many times a whole day for a blood transfusion. His daughter, Ms. Nguyen Thi Tho, said that the family had no choice but to pray for help through community blood donation groups and associations on social networks. Not only Mr. V's family, but many other patients are in a similar situation: waiting, hoping to reduce each unit of blood to save their lives.

Doctors said that the center is currently lacking about 50 - 60% of blood compared to actual needs. For non-urgent cases, patients can only receive blood transfusions if they have relatives to donate on their behalf. The only way to overcome this situation is to organize voluntary blood donations, however, in the past 2 weeks, no locality in the area has organized any blood donation - instead of 5-6 times per month as before.
In this situation, Nghe An Hematology - Blood Transfusion Center issued a call for emergency blood donation.
Specifically, the Center calls on healthy people to spend a few minutes donating blood to save lives; Agencies, units, and organizations organize centralized blood donation campaigns; Families of patients proactively donate blood to support relatives.
"A drop of blood given - a life left behind. In the context of the "endless" blood supply, community sharing is the hope of survival for thousands of patients in Nghe An - Ha Tinh. Take action today, because only humans can save people's lives" - a representative of Nghe An Hematology - Blood Transfusion Center shared.
People can come to donate blood directly at Nghe An Hematology - Blood Transfusion Center (60A Ton That Tung, Vinh City) every day of the week from 7:30 to 17:30, except Sunday.
