Urgently solve anemia
According to Dr. Ho Hoang Thi Kim Hue - Head of the Department of Biochemistry - Hematology - Blood Transfusion, Vietnam - Cuba Dong Hoi Friendship Hospital, normally, the peak demand after Tet ranges from 600-700 units of blood. However, currently, the hospital's blood bank has only 150 units, while all blood types are scarce, especially group A.
The main reason for this situation is the prolonged Tet holiday, making it difficult to mobilize blood donation sources. Meanwhile, the demand for blood transfusion for emergency care, treatment of blood diseases, surgery... is still increasing. The mentality of December 10 "blood splashing" at the beginning of the year also makes many people hesitate to donate blood.
In recent days, on the fanpage of the Vietnam - Cuba Dong Hoi Friendship Hospital and the Quang Binh Youth Voluntary Blood Donation Club, there have been continuous announcements calling for blood donation.
In order to ensure a reserve blood supply, the hospital is implementing a plan to " blood exchange" between patients' relatives. If the family does not have a blood type suitable for the patient, they can donate blood from another group to replace the appropriate group from other blood donors.
Ms. Truong Thi Thu Dong (Ba Don town) shared: "My brother is being treated at the hospital, and had to undergo surgery for nearly 5 hours, so he needed a lot of blood transfusion. He has blood type A, but I have blood type O+. Fortunately, the hospital is flexible, as long as it meets health requirements, it is a blood donation and there will be a transition between patients' families".
Faced with this situation, the Quang Binh Provincial Red Cross Society and related agencies have been implementing many solutions to overcome the immediate and long-term anemia situation.
Towards sustainable solutions
According to Mr. Phan Van Cau - Chairman of the Quang Binh Provincial Red Cross Society, one of the immediate important measures is to continue maintaining a fixed blood donation point at the Vietnam - Cuba Dong Hoi Friendship Hospital. This helps people to be able to donate blood at any time, even outside of working hours, ensuring that blood reserves are not interrupted.
Mobile blood donation campaigns will be deployed in many localities according to assigned targets. These blood donations will be organized flexibly, with effective methods of mobilization to attract the participation of a large number of people. Aiming to completely solve the anemia problem, Mr. Cau informed that the Quang Binh Provincial Red Cross Society will continue to promote and mobilize blood donation to become a regular activity, instead of just a temporary one.
In addition to the youth and student force, organizations such as the police, army, and trade unions of agencies and enterprises will also be encouraged to participate in blood donation. Expanding this target helps ensure a more abundant and stable blood supply.
Vietnam - Cuba Dong Hoi Friendship Hospital can cooperate with other hospitals and health organizations to have a blood source to support when necessary. Connecting with Red Cross Society in neighboring provinces also helps share blood resources in emergency cases.
