According to statistics from the Hanoi Department of Animal Husbandry, Fisheries and Veterinary Medicine, the whole city currently has more than 410,500 dogs and cats raised in nearly 230,000 households.Of which, Soc Son district is the locality with the largest total flock with nearly 68,000 cows.
The rabies epidemic situation in Hanoi is still complicated, especially in suburban districts such as Soc Son. In 2024, rabies outbreak broke out in 6 communes of the district including: Hong Ky, Minh Tri, Duc Hoa, Hien Ninh, Minh Phu and Thanh Xuan. Notably, in just the first 3 months of 2025, Soc Son continued to record 2 new outbreaks in Tan Dan and Minh Tri communes.
Ms. Hoang Thi Ha - Director of the Soc Son District Agricultural Service Center - said that the unit has implemented rabies vaccination for dogs and cats according to the plan of Hanoi City. Thanks to that, the vaccination rate has reached a high level, contributing effectively to disease control in the area.
Since 2024, Hanoi has vigorously implemented a rabies vaccination campaign on dogs and cats. Currently, all 12 inner-city districts have been granted the certificate of "Ansense Zone for Animal Wildlife". In 2025, the city will continue to set a target of supporting vaccination for 97% of all dog and cat flocks in districts and towns.
Rabies is a dangerous infectious disease, with a mortality rate of nearly 100% if not treated promptly. Therefore, vaccination not only helps protect the health of livestock, but is also an essential measure to protect human life. With the synchronous participation of authorities at all levels and people, Hanoi City is gradually controlling the rabies epidemic well, aiming to build a safe and civilized living environment.
