Helping workers overcome difficulties
On August 6, the Ho Chi Minh City Labor Federation organized a program to care for union members and workers in the former Ba Ria - Vung Tau area. Many disadvantaged people in the area were given gifts of encouragement and support.
One of the cases that the union cared about supporting and giving gifts on August 6 was Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong (a union member of the Vung Tau Urban and Environmental Services and Construction Company) who has not yet recovered from a serious accident that occurred at the end of June 2024.
While working, Ms. Phuong was hit by a female driver with a dramatic alcohol concentration in the car frame, unconscious on the spot. When she woke up, Ms. Phuong was given emergency care and treatment for multiple injuries including: Pneumonia and overflow; level 3 liver contusion; 13 broken ribs; 2 spinal injuries... and had to be bedridden for a long time.
"The person was seriously injured, but the person causing the accident only visited him once, leaving 1 million VND and a cake gift box to support medical examination and treatment," Ms. Phuong said.
Currently, Ms. Phuong has returned to work, but can only do light work due to injury and has not recovered; many things have to ask for support from colleagues, at the same time, she has to have regular medical examination and treatment and endure persistent pain, when the pain is too painful, she has to use painkillers...
"Thereby, I appreciate the attention of the union when facing difficulties. After the accident, trade unions at all levels visited, cared for, encouraged, supported, and created conditions. My husband even had many months off from the company to take care of me when I was bedridden, Ms. Phuong said.
According to Ms. Phuong, the prolonged treatment of injuries, along with limited work; 2 children are studying in university (3rd and 12th grades), making the family's circumstances very difficult. The support gift from the union is like a support for the family to overcome this stage.

In addition, the Ho Chi Minh City Labor Federation also organized the awarding of Nguyen Duc Canh scholarships to children of union members and workers in the area.
Receiving the Nguyen Duc Canh scholarship, Vu Thuy Duong expressed her gratitude to the Trade Union for encouraging and helping her overcome difficult circumstances and strive to study. I am an 11th grade student, but have to undergo long-term treatment for a blood tumor; my younger brother is being treated for many diseases related to cardiovascular disease...
In the program, the Ho Chi Minh City Labor Federation presented a total of 100 gifts (including 1 million VND in cash and gifts) to those in difficult circumstances; 20 Nguyen Duc Canh scholarships (each worth 1 million VND) to students who are children of union members and workers.
Ms. Pham Thu Huong - Vice President of the Ho Chi Minh City Labor Federation, in charge of the Area Working Group No. 5 - said that according to the plan, in the wards and special zones under the management of Group 5, a total of 1,000 gifts will be presented to those in difficult circumstances; 100 Nguyen Duc Canh scholarships and 80 gifts to female workers in difficult circumstances.
In the coming time, Group 5 will visit, encourage and give gifts directly to workers at a number of enterprises. The remaining gifts will be transferred directly to union members and workers, said Ms. Huong.
The gifts and support money given are not only material help, but also a source of spiritual encouragement, adding strength for union members and workers to overcome difficulties. In the coming time, trade unions at all levels will gradually stabilize, continue to focus on caring for and protecting the legitimate rights and interests of union members and workers.
