Opening a union supermarket helps workers save costs
At Yazaki EDS Vietnam Co., Ltd. (Di An ward, Ho Chi Minh City), there is a small supermarket serving workers in the business premises. This is a "Union supermarket model" from the idea of Ms. Pham Thi Tuyet Nhung - Chairwoman of the company's Trade Union. Ms. Pham Thi Tuyet Nhung said that the factory in Di An has about 4,000 workers. Through the survey, the union found that after work hours, workers often spend a lot of time going to the market to buy necessities, while balancing spending is always a burden, especially for imported workers who have to cover housework, food and children.
After consideration, Ms. Nhung proposed that the enterprise build a Trade Union supermarket right in the company to provide essential goods to employees at preferential prices. The model meets the criteria of convenience, quality and economy, so the Board of Directors agrees to implement it.
At the supermarket, workers can buy necessities at a discount of 10-45%. The union also cooperates with large supermarket systems, periodically organizing preferential sales programs for employees. The model was first applied in Di An, then expanded to branches in My Phuoc Industrial Park (Ben Cat, Ho Chi Minh City), attracting many workers to shop during recess and after work.
Through this model, union members have better conditions to ensure welfare, creating solidarity and trust between union members and grassroots unions and companies, said Ms. Pham Thi Tuyet Nhung.
Proposing many policies that are beneficial to workers
With over 10 years of holding the position of Chairwoman of the Trade Union at the company, Ms. Pham Thi Tuyet Nhung tries to record all the contributions of employees.
Through research, seeing any issues that many workers are interested in and need immediate support for, she will discuss them at union meetings to implement and develop appropriate plans. With a specific approach, she has advised the company's leadership to implement many good practices and effective models from building salaries, bonuses, and keeping employees confidential.
At Yazaki EDS Vietnam Co., Ltd., this female union president is trusted by many employees, because she is always a person of work, speaking in harmony with work. Since her first days as Chairwoman of the Company's Trade Union, understanding the hardships of employees in sending children, food allowances, tuition, accommodation allowances, etc., Ms. Nhung boldly proposed to the Board of Directors to build a kindergarten for the children of workers. The idea was approved by the Board of Directors. Currently, the kindergarten is supporting the raising of hundreds of children of workers at the factory in Ben Cat.
The effectiveness of this model is that it is convenient for employees to work overtime, while their children still have someone to take care of them. The tuition fee per month at the kindergarten only costs a few hundred thousand VND, suitable for the company's employees.
In addition, to take care of workers, Ms. Nhung and the Executive Board of the Trade Union received the wishes of union members and recommended that the company complete the mid-term Labor Day holiday for workers. The project has a roof to cover the rain and sun. Below is a wooden table system with a mattress. The entire project is invested with about 2.2 billion VND.
Notably, in September 2025, the Trade Union also coordinated with the company to organize a ceremony to honor and show gratitude to senior employees, with 183 employees. This source of income helps employees have more funds to cover their living expenses and motivates them to stay with the company more.
