Borrowing capital without interest helps workers overcome difficulties and stabilize their lives

PHƯƠNG ANH |

Many businesses and trade unions in Can Tho City have effectively implemented interest-free loan policies, thereby supporting workers to overcome difficulties, stabilize their lives and feel secure in sticking with work for a long time.

Supporting workers in difficult times

For many years, businesses in Can Tho have always paid attention to taking care of the material and spiritual lives of workers and laborers. A typical example is Minh Phu - Hau Giang Seafood Joint Stock Company, where the support fund for union members and workers has been maintained and developed effectively for more than 4 years.

According to Ms. Chu Nu Huyen Trang - Chairman of the Company's Trade Union, the fund was formed from the contributions of staff and partner units, creating a solid resource to care for and support workers in difficult times of life, employment, income, health or natural disasters and disasters. Employees in special circumstances are allowed to borrow up to 10 million VND without interest, prioritized for urgent needs such as repairing houses, treating diseases, buying a car to work or paying tuition for their children.

Up to now, the fund has disbursed more than VND 4.7 billion to 474 union members and workers. This is a source of spiritual encouragement and practical support, helping workers overcome the most difficult periods in life" - Ms. Trang emphasized.

A typical case is Ms. Chau Thi Bich Lien - a worker at 01 Kaoi 1 who works as a distributor of goods handling and processing. She emotionally shared: Thanks to the company's Support Fund and the attention of the union, she was able to borrow 10 million VND without interest to buy a vehicle to go to work because her house was far from the company. Ms. Lien is currently the main breadwinner in the family, her husband has cervical degeneration and her two children are in high school and high school.

"Without timely support, I would have had a hard time getting by. Thanks to the fund, I and many other workers have more confidence and feel secure in sticking with the work" - Ms. Lien shared.

Similarly, Vietnam Clean Seafood Joint Stock Company also maintains many policies to care for workers.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Yen Loan - Vice President of the company's Trade Union - said that the company had previously cooperated with a reputable bank to support workers in borrowing capital at preferential interest rates. Thanks to that, many workers have promptly resolved immediate difficulties, paid debts on time and continued to stick with the enterprise.

In addition, the company also maintains a policy of supporting the children of workers in difficult circumstances who are studying at university with a level of 1 million VND/month for 48 months. This is practical support, reducing the burden of tuition fees. In particular, union members in difficulty are also supported by the union to borrow without interest and gradually pay in the form of salary deduction (500,000 VND/month until enough).

When joining the Union, union members' work is more stable

Not only stopping at companies, many unions also implement models to support loans and care for workers' lives. A typical example is the Tran De Fishing Port Loading and unloading Union.

Mr. Duong Hoai Thanh - Head of Loading and unloading Team No. 5, under the Tran De Fishing Port Loading and unloading Union - said: The team has over 60 members, serving loading and unloading for more than 100 fishing vessels inside and outside the province. With a minimum income of about 8 million VND/month, many can reach 15-18 million VND/month.

Before joining the union, many brothers had to work in many jobs such as sugarcane cutting, truck drivers, bricklayers... so their income was very unstable. When joining the Union, the work was more stable, as long as the ship docked, the brothers had a job and a steady income" - Mr. Thanh shared.

To encourage and retain the brothers, Mr. Thanh regularly provides free meals and water for 3 meals/day, giving gifts during the Lunar New Year. In particular, in difficult cases, interest-free loans are also supported to build houses, buy motorbikes as a means of transportation, and then gradually pay by deducting from monthly income.
