As a grassroots union that was newly established in mid-March 2025, a representative of the Executive Committee of the Son Thinh Market Union (Van Chan District, Yen Bai Province) said: " Participating in the union, we have many benefits such as visiting, being sick, sharing difficulties with those in difficulty. Thereby, 92 union members who are traders and businessmen are connected to unite and develop together".
Speaking to Lao Dong Newspaper, Ms. Trieu Thi Thu Nga - Head of the Organization and Inspection Department of the Yen Bai Provincial Federation of Labor - informed: The characteristic of informal labor is unstable work, unstable income, limited rights and opportunities in resolving labor disputes. With the motto "Where there are workers, there is a Trade Union organization", in recent times, trade unions at all levels have reviewed and grasped the labor situation in all fields of profession in communes, wards and towns to develop a plan to propagate and mobilize union members and establish grassroots unions. At the same time, proactively innovate the content and methods of operation, in order to care for and protect the legitimate rights and interests to create trust for workers to participate in the Trade Union organization".
In the mountainous district of Tran Yen, implementing the target of developing union members and establishing grassroots unions in the informal sector is one of the difficult tasks. Currently, the non-state enterprise sector in the area is mainly small and micro enterprises, some enterprises only employ 3-5 workers, are unstable, seasonal labor contracts...
To meet the requirements of the new situation, the Tran Yen District Labor Federation has implemented many solutions to innovate content and forms, diversify propaganda and mobilization work in a proactive, timely and extensive manner.
In addition, effectively use information channels of trade union organizations at all levels and media to propagate to companies, enterprises, and production and business workshops outside the State. Recently, the Tran Yen District Labor Federation has promoted and mobilized the establishment of a new HaNa Garment Union, Y Can commune with 28 union members, bringing the total to 25 non-state grassroots unions.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong in Hoa Cuong commune, Tran Yen district, who is working as a garment worker at HaNa garment factory, excitedly shared: I have been working at the garment factory for more than a year, with an income of 10 - 12 million VND/month, social insurance paid by the garment factory owner and fully equipped with labor protection. Everyone was very happy that the new HaNa garment factory established a grassroots union to care for and protect the legitimate rights and interests of workers. We will work hard and stay here for a long time to have a stable source of income for life...".
In order to be effective in developing union members and establishing grassroots unions in non-state enterprises, from the beginning of 2025, the Yen Bai Provincial Federation of Labor has proposed many solutions. Thanks to that, from the beginning of 2025 to now, 11 new grassroots unions have been established, bringing the total number of grassroots unions to 1,039; 823 new union members were admitted, bringing the total number of union members in the province to 45,840 (of which 342 were union members in the informal sector).
In order to promote the development of union members in non-state enterprises, the Yen Bai Provincial Federation of Labor continues to implement a plan to support enterprises in recruiting workers. Recently, the union has supported 3 enterprises to recruit 95 workers, contributing to speeding up the progress to the target of admitting union members and establishing grassroots unions.
