Meta is developing a new feature for custom chatbot platforms like Instagram and WhatsApp, allowing them to proactively send reminders to users based on previous conversations.
This feature allows the chatbot to automatically send messages to users, even when not required, to increase interaction and retain users.
The active messaging feature is still in the testing phase. Although AI can rekindle conversations on its own initiative, Meta representatives say the chatbot only sends messages if the user is the one who started the conversation first and will not forward if ignored.
Accordingly, chatbots are only allowed to send further messages within 14 days from the date the user proactively messages on the condition that they have had at least 5 messages exchanged between them during that time. If the user does not respond, the chatbot will not send more messages. Users can also share personal chatbot via story, link or display on their personal page.
Last month, Meta also warned users not to share private information in conversations with Meta AI, after discovering that many users accidentally reveal sensitive details.
