Previously, X's leader, Elon Musk, mentioned plans to upgrade the live messaging system from mid-2025, with a commitment to encryption and a "completely new architecture". However, instead of just improving in the X application, this time XChat (the name of the messaging platform) is developed into an independent application.
The application allows users to text with any account on X, and also supports multi-device calls. XChat is equipped with end-to-end encryption, allowing editing and deleting messages for all conversation participants.
The application also adds a series of security features such as blocking screenshots and messages that disappear automatically after 5 minutes. Users can also create large chat groups with a maximum of 481 members.
According to the description on the App Store, XChat will not display ads and will not track users.
Currently, iPhone and iPad users can pre-order to automatically download the application when it is officially released.
