Hoang Trong Khanh had the chance to meet the children of the charity class one afternoon while drinking at a cafe. “When I arrived, I accidentally saw some children using a stone grave as a study table. I was very surprised that in a big city (HCMC) there was such a scene,” he recounted.
Through research, Mr. Khanh learned about the difficult circumstances of the people here. They are very poor, their livelihood in the countryside is not enough, so they come to Ho Chi Minh City to change their lives, bringing their children with them. Currently, they have no jobs...
During his observation, he saw that the children here only studied superficially to avoid being scolded by their parents, and they really did not understand the lesson. At that time, he understood the problems the children were facing, so he said, "Let me show you."
Mr. Hoang Trong Khanh sympathizes with the children. When a child does not understand the lesson in class, he or she will be the target of ridicule, criticism, and scolding by other children.
At that time, Mr. Khanh himself had just arrived in Ho Chi Minh City so he didn't know anyone yet. He thought that spending time with the children would be fun.
But when he started to accompany and learn, it was not only the joy but also the children's circumstances that motivated him to continue trying to create the class.
It's been almost 15 years since I started taking the class, but I've never forgotten a single moment, it's still like it was yesterday.
Next is the second memory of the "15-year" milestone of worker teacher Hoang Trong Khanh.
For Mr. Khanh: “15 years is not a long time in a person’s life. I am passionate and love my current job. 15 years is also the number of years that my children and I have gone through together.”
The children who have been with him since the beginning are now grown up, some of them have started families.
Sharing at the program, he said that he also encountered some difficulties in the teaching process. The place leading to his first class was a cemetery area, a red dirt road, a gathering place for bad elements, with no street lights.
When he arrived at the teaching place, people around him gossiped that he was “addicted” because he was quite small and thin, so he could not avoid negative comments. When he heard those comments, he ignored them and still maintained his own point of view.
In the early days of establishing the charity class, Mr. Trong Khanh had to change teaching locations many times. He borrowed teaching locations from grocery stores, hair salons, carpentry workshops, and then borrowed committee headquarters, neighborhoods, etc.
After moving places, the parents also wanted to invest in a place for their children to study, so they pooled money to build a classroom. And that classroom has been accompanied by Mr. Hoang Trong Khanh for nearly 8 years now.
MC Ngoc Lan shared her thoughts that Mr. Khanh put more love for the children than himself, he only cared about the children, wanting to bring the most useful knowledge.
