The Ministry of Education and Training responds to the proposal to allow extra teaching and learning at schools

The Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) has issued a document responding to the opinions of voters in some provinces sent before the 9th Session of the National Assembly. Voters in Ninh Binh province expressed their agreement with the strict management of extra teaching and learning according to Circular 29/2024 of the Ministry of Education and Training. However, many parents hope to allow schools to organize extra classes at schools under the management of the education sector, to ensure better learning conditions, reduce costs and facilitate students.
Responding to the proposal, Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son said that the Ministry has strengthened measures to improve the quality of main curriculum teaching, while promoting experiential and practical activities, aiming at comprehensive development of students' abilities and qualities. The Ministry has also submitted to the Prime Minister to issue Directive 17 on organizing teaching and learning sessions/day and summer activities for students.
The Ministry of Education and Training will continue to coordinate with ministries, branches and localities to organize 2 teaching sessions/day in accordance with reality, especially focusing on disadvantaged areas. This is to exploit facilities well, avoid waste and reduce the financial burden on parents, while helping students develop comprehensively both academically and life skills. See more...
Parents and schools are ready to deploy support for boarding meals
Many parents are happy to receive a support policy of 20,000 VND/lunch for students. Thanks to this policy, many families with two children in primary school save nearly 1 million VND/month, reducing the burden of living expenses, especially in the context of escalating prices.
Schools have quickly notified, collected opinions and instructed parents to register for their children to take boarding. The support will be provided by semester, paid based on the actual number of meals. Parents only need to pay the additional difference (about 10,000 - 15,000 VND/meal), the rest will be supported by the State. The implementation is assessed as favorable, transparent and agreed by both parents and schools.
Principals of schools said that the policy of supporting lunch for primary school students is humane, ensuring fairness between public and non-public schools. The rate of parents registering to provide meals for boarding students is nearly 100%, many schools have proactively prepared for cases of changing needs. The implementation process is closely monitored and settled in 4-month installments. See more...

Principal chokes up before the new school year because he worries students cannot attend class
At the end of July, a flash flood caused Huu Khuong Boarding Secondary School for Ethnic Minorities (Nghe An province) to be deeply submerged in mud. The boarding house and classrooms were severely damaged, many buildings collapsed, were skewed, and school supplies such as books, blankets, and cabinets were washed away or completely damaged.

More than 200 students of the school - mainly children of the Thai, Kho Mu, and H'Mong ethnic groups - have now lost all their books, clothes, and necessary items for the new school year. Many students only have a few sets of wet clothes left. Meanwhile, their families were also severely affected by natural disasters, making preparation for the new school year even more difficult. The school's principal said there is currently no funding to repair the damage and purchase boarding facilities. See more...
