Foreign university degrees are invalid in Vietnam because they are not qualified
In recent days, many former students have been upset because their bachelor's degrees awarded by Liverpool John Moores University (UK) have not been recognized in Vietnam. They studied at the London College of Design and Economics (LCDF - Hanoi), before being introduced by the school's leaders to the joint program with the university.

In response to the reflection, a representative of the London College of Design and Fashion admitted that there were shortcomings in updating regulations and did not fully inform students.
The school believes that the universities introduced by this organization to students are all prestigious, famous and have degrees recognized in many major countries. However, to be recognized in Vietnam, it must go through a complex process.
The school has coordinated with the British Embassy to discuss with the Ministry of Education and Training and relevant management agencies to find solutions, with the highest priority of ensuring the highest rights for learners, and at the same time committed to reviewing the entire legal process, ensuring that academic information is updated fully and accurately.
On the management side, the Ministry of Education and Training said that it is considering establishing an inspection team to clarify the school's international training activities and affirmed that it will handle them in accordance with legal regulations, strictly handle violations (if any) according to its authority; at the same time, ensure the legitimate and legal rights of learners on the basis of full compliance with current regulations.
Need to ensure legality and rights of learners
According to statistics from the Ministry of Education and Training, as of June 30, 2025, the country has 423 joint training programs at universities, spanning over 67 majors, of which the group of majors - economy - management accounts for 51%, science - technology - engineering accounts for nearly 20%. In addition, 32 colleges are also implementing 77 joint training programs.

The scale of affiliated programs is considered relatively large and continues to expand, contributing to meeting the demand for international program learning in the country.
However, after attending the College of Design and the London School of thekgou, the problem is that with the rapid increase in the number of management, quality supervision and compliance with the law, it is also necessary to strengthen.
Associate Professor, Dr. Le Hieu Hoc - Head of the Faculty of Science and Technology of Education, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, commented that the joint training programs open up opportunities for students to access international standard programs, quality lecturers and modern training methods in the context of globalization and international integration of education.
However, when choosing an affiliate program, learners need to pay special attention to legal factors. First of all, it is necessary to carefully check information about training partners abroad, the status of operations of this facility on the official website, as well as the school's position in prestigious rankings in each field.
"All joint degrees that you want to use to study and work in Vietnam must be recognized by the Ministry of Education and Training according to current legal regulations. This is something that students and parents need to know clearly" - he noted.
Associate Professor, Dr. Le Hieu Hoc said that ensuring the quality of joint training programs needs to start with reviewing and perfecting the legal document system in the direction of being both strict and creating conditions for educational institutions to proactively cooperate internationally, but at the same time, it must be associated with responsibility in selecting partners and implementing the program.
In particular, he especially noted that it is necessary to strengthen supervision, especially for enrollment and promotion activities of joint programs, promptly detect, prevent violations, and issue early warnings so that learners and parents have full information.
On the part of learners, Mr. Hoc believes that the role of coaching and guidance from teachers is also very important, helping students identify risks and be more cautious before deciding to choose a training facility. Providing information, advice and early warnings to students, especially high school students, through the team of teachers and staff of the school is considered necessary, helping them and their families have enough data before making a decision to choose a training facility.
