The information was given by the Department of Education and Training (DET) of Can Tho City at the press conference for the third quarter of 2025 organized by the City People's Committee on October 16.
Ms. Tran Thi Huyen - Acting Director of the Department of Education and Training of Can Tho City - said that after the merger of 3 localities, the Department has received the status quo of educational institutions in Hau Giang province, the old Soc Trang and Can Tho City.

Regarding preparations for the new school year, the education sector has advised the City People's Committee to implement it synchronously, ensuring that all schools and teachers have meaningful and healthy opening sessions. The activity has received consensus from all levels in implementing a day for all people to take children to school.
According to Ms. Huyen, currently, not only the city's education sector, but the whole country is lacking teachers.
Regarding the fact that 41 schools in the old Soc Trang province owed teachers nearly 30 billion VND, the Department of Education and Training had information and had a working session with the Department of Finance and the City People's Committee. Accordingly, the industry will consult with the Department of Finance and pay this amount to the teaching staff as soon as possible.
"The cost of returning Soc Trang province to its original state is still 16 billion VND. The education sector will take that amount to pay for the salaries of teachers at this stage. At the same time, it will save in educational expenditure sources to pay. If there is still a shortage, the industry will submit it to the Department of Finance for compensation. This is a debt settlement plan for teachers in the old Soc Trang province, said Ms. Huyen.

The Acting Director of the Department of Education and Training of Can Tho City also provided more information on the consideration of teacher promotion in the area. Through the working sessions, up to now, the Department of Education and Training has been approved by the Department of Home Affairs to be assigned to the unit to carry out the work of considering teacher promotion.
Upon receiving the document from the Department of Home Affairs, the Department of Education and Training immediately reviewed the job positioning plan in current schools. When the data is compiled, the unit will submit to the Department of Home Affairs to submit to the City People's Committee for approval of the project and promotion targets for each unit. After that, the city's Department of Education and Training will receive documents to consider promotion according to approved targets.
