Nguyen Van Tiep canal through Cai Lay district flows through Phu Cuong, Thanh Loc and My Thanh Bac communes. However, currently, this area only has one bridge in Thanh Loc commune, with a scale of one lane with a load capacity of 8 tons.
Limited transport infrastructure makes it difficult for people, especially students, to travel.
Many households have to use primitive watercraft such as wooden boats and wooden ferries to cross both sides of the canal, posing a potential risk to traffic safety.
In addition, cars wanting to go to Phu Cuong Commune People's Committee or Phu Cuong Agricultural Center are forced to go around more than 6 - 7 km through other bridges, causing waste of time and transportation costs.
The Nguyen Van Tiep Bridge project is designed with a main bridge 182.47 m long, including 7 spans, a bridge 10 m wide, and a design load of HL 93. The bridge ensures a clearance of 6x30 m.
The approach road to the bridge has a total main route length of 284.07 m, a road surface width of 8 - 9 m, designed to withstand a load of 10 tons/axle, and a maximum traffic speed of 40 km/h.
The site clearance work is expected to reclaim 6,637 m2 of land. Cai Lay District People's Committee is the project investor, has set up land clearance markers and is implementing an inventory and applying compensation prices to affected households.
The total cost of the project is 119.451 billion VND, of which the construction cost is 60.456 billion VND, the site clearance cost is 35.620 billion VND.
When completed, the project will connect smoothly from National Highway 1 to Provincial Road 865, contributing to improving traffic infrastructure, promoting the development of large rice-producing areas in Cai Lay district and neighboring localities.
