This information was confirmed by China's market regulator on Sunday.
According to a statement from China's State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR), BYD is recalling Dolphin and Yuan Plus electric vehicles manufactured in China between November 2022 and December 2023.
SAMR’s statement added that the company will require dealers to install a physical fix on the recalled vehicles. So far, BYD has not said whether any of the affected EVs have been exported.
The Dolphin and Yuan Plus were BYD's two best-selling models in 2023, accounting for a combined 26% of the three million vehicles sold that year, according to data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers.
The recall is a rare move by BYD for its all-electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles.
The company recalled a small batch of Tang plug-in hybrid vehicles in 2022 due to a battery pack defect that could cause a fire.
