Mr. Tao Duc Thang is the second person of Viettel to be promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General.

The Ministry of National Defense has just held a ceremony to announce and hand over the decision to promote the rank of Lieutenant General to Mr. Tao Duc Thang - Chairman of Viettel Group.

Thus, Mr. Tao Duc Thang is the second person of Viettel to be promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General after Mr. Hoang Anh Xuan.

Mr. Tao Duc Thang was born on July 15, 1973, from Thanh Hoa, with a Master's degree in Electronics and Telecommunications.

Before his appointment, Mr. Tao Duc Thang held many key positions of Viettel such as: Deputy General Director of Viettel Group (2018-2021), Acting Deputy General Director of the Group (2015-2018), Acting General Director of Viettel International Investment Corporation (2014-201 2015, General Director of Viettel Network Corporation (2013-2014), Director of Viettel Network Corporation (2010-2013), Acting Deputy Director of Viettel Telecommunications Company (2008-2010)...

In 2005, he joined Viettel as Head of Technical Management Department, Viettel Mobile Phone Company (Viettel Military Telecommunications Joint Stock Company). From 2005-2008, he held the positions of Deputy Director of KV1 Mobile Phone Center and Deputy Director of the Technical Operation Center (Viettel Telecommunications Company). From 1995-2005, he worked at Hanoi Phone and Post Office.

In charge of Viettel Network Corporation (VTNet) in many stages, Mr. Tao Duc Thang has made important contributions with VTNet to build and deploy a system of 120,000 mobile broadcasting stations (BTS) to serve tens of millions of customers, creating the premise for Viettel to make two revolutions in telecommunications:popularity of mobile phones and broadband mobile Internet.

During his tenure as a leader of Viettel International Investment Joint Stock Corporation, he also contributed to making Viettel the largest Vietnamese enterprise to invest abroad with 10 international markets with 5 countries ranked No. 1 in terms of market share, 8 markets have made a profit, 3 markets have recovered 4-5 times more than the invested capital.

In February 2022, Mr. Tao Duc Thang held the position of Chairman of Viettel Group.

The promotion of Mr. Tao Duc Thang to military rank shows the recognition of the Party, State and Army for his contributions in the process of leading and operating Viettel, especially in making Viettel a leading technology and telecommunications corporation in Vietnam and having a position in the international arena.
