50-year development journey
50 years ago, taking advantage of the opportunity from the Buon Ma Thuot victory (March 10, 1975), the army and people of Gia Lai coordinated with key forces to attack and disband the enemy's Army Corps II.
This victory contributed significantly to the Great Spring Victory of 1975, bringing Gia Lai complete liberation on March 17, 1975 . This event not only helps liberate the Central Highlands but also creates a strategic stepping stone for our army to advance to the coastal provinces of the Central and the South, accelerating the process of ending the war.
Half a century after the liberation day, Gia Lai has continuously promoted revolutionary traditions, promoting economic development with a focus on agriculture. Currently, the whole province has 98,700 hectares of coffee, with an output of about 267,450 tons/year; 10,040 hectares of pepper, with an output of 35,700 tons/year; 30,000 hectares of fruit trees, aiming to expand to 100,000 hectares.
Thanks to these advantages, the province has attracted nearly 300 investment projects in the agriculture and forestry sector with a total capital of up to VND 10,402 billion, along with 209 livestock projects worth VND 35,000 billion. Currently, the agricultural product group accounts for 70-80% of the province's total export turnover, making an important contribution to economic development.
Orientation for sustainable development
Gia Lai aims to become a dynamic economic center of the Northern Central Highlands with key orientations such as: Developing high-tech agriculture, expanding forestry and medicinal plant areas and developing seed centers. Call for investment in processing industry, construction of industrial parks, logistics centers, agricultural and animal feed processing factories.
Gia Lai province also focuses on developing urban areas and trade; building smart urban areas, eco-tourism and modern resorts.
With a vision to 2050, Gia Lai aims for an average GRDP per capita equal to the national average. Pleiku city is planned to become a dynamic economic center, connecting with important corridor axes such as Ho Chi Minh Road, National Highway 19, National Highway 25 and Le Thanh International Border Gate Economic Zone.
In addition to economic development, Gia Lai focuses on building an ecological and humane plateau. Here, people live in harmony with nature, preserve the cultural identity of many ethnic groups, improve the quality of education and science and technology.
Mr. Nguyen Huu Que - Vice Chairman of Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee - said: "One of Gia Lai's most important goals in the coming time is to build Pleiku into a comprehensive center for economy, culture and services. This city will become a strongly developed mountain city, playing a key role in the overall development of the whole province".
On the path of rapid and sustainable development, Gia Lai is gradually affirming its position as a "green plateau for health", developing harmoniously between the economy and improving the quality of life for the people.
