On August 18, the Quang Trach I Thermal Power Plant project held a ceremony to burn oil for the first time at the boiler of Group No. 1, marking an important milestone in progress.
The Quang Trach I Thermal Power Plant project is invested by Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) and directly managed by the Power Project Management Board 2.
The project is built in Vinh Son village (Phu Trach commune, Quang Tri province) including 2 coal incineration units with a capacity of 2x701.5 MW, the electricity output to the system is about 7.8 billion kWh/year.

According to EVN, by August 2025, the overall progress of the project had reached 94.5%. The boiler system, static electricity filter, SOx and DO oil transportation are basically complete, ready for synchronous operation.
The first oil burning ceremony has a special meaning, officially changing the stage from installation, single-trip testing to system-wide synchronization. This is also the final preparation step towards connecting the national grid and generating electricity for commercial purposes.
Quang Trach Power Center includes 4 major projects: Quang Trach I, Quang Trach II, Quang Trach III Thermal Power Plants and infrastructure projects. The total expected capacity is more than 4,400 MW, with an investment capital of about VND 140,000 billion.
When completed, the projects will provide a stable power source for the system, while contributing greatly to the budget of Quang Tri province, creating jobs for local people.

Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh - Director of Power Project Management Board 2 - said that the Quang Trach I Thermal Power Plant project is of great significance in the VIII Power Plan, with a total capital of more than 42,000 billion VND and a capacity of 1,403 MW.
Up to now, the progress has reached 94.5%, ready for the first oil incineration ceremony of the No. 1 Steamer, aiming for synchronous power generation in 2026. He expressed his gratitude for the attention and direction of leaders at all levels and the efforts of the MISUBISHI - HYUNDAI - CC1 contractor consortium, and called for continued support and coordination to ensure the project reaches the finish line safely and on schedule.

The Power Project Management Board 2 said that the unit is closely coordinating with contractors and supervision consultants to ensure progress, quality and environmental safety.

Mr. Hoang Nam - Permanent Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Tri province - said that the first oil incineration ceremony of the Steamer No. 1 of Quang Trach I Thermal Power Plant is an important milestone, taking place on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the successful August Revolution (August 19, 1945 - August 19, 2025) and the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025).
The project has great significance in ensuring energy security, creating momentum for socio-economic development for the province. He thanked Vietnam Electricity Group, contractors, consultants and workers for their efforts, and pledged that the province will accompany and remove difficulties for the power generation project in 2026.
