According to QCVN 01:2022/BKHCN on gasoline, diesel fuel and biofuel, E10 gasoline is biofuel with a fuel alcohol content of 9 - 10% by volume. According to Petrolimex, there are now more than 60 countries that are widely using E10 gasoline. Engineer Ngo Viet Dung, Vice President and General Secretary of the Vietnam Automobile Sports Association - said that the popular type of fuel currently used by many countries is E20 gasoline, some countries still use E85. Vietnam is currently implementing step by step based on international experience.
Technical experts and experience from international automakers assess that most vehicles manufactured after 2000 can use E10 RON 95 gasoline without any technical problems. Especially modern cars that use electronic fuel injection systems," said Mr. Bui Ngoc Bao - Chairman of the Vietnam Petroleum Association.
In fact, each vehicle has different regulations, so the vehicle owner still needs to carefully study this content in the Handbook of Use (HDSD).
For example, with the Honda CR-V 2021: The Thai version can use E85 gasoline, but the HDSD book in Vietnam does not mention biofuel, only clearly state the requirement for gasoline with a octane index of 91 or higher. While the 2021 Mazda6 is confirmed to be compatible with the E10 in Europe. Toyota Corolla Altis 2022 clearly states that it can use the E85 regardless of market.
Most modern motorbike lines, especially from major manufacturers such as Honda, Yamaha, Piaggio... have been designed to be compatible with fuel containing Pethanol such as E5 and E10.
"Not only does it have environmental benefits, E10 gasoline is also considered an engine-friendly fuel. Ethanol with a high octan value will create conditions for the combustion process in the incinerator to take place more evenly, thoroughly and stably, increase the performance of labor and limit the phenomenon of early detonation. Clean burning efficiency because Ethanol has a high oxygen content, helping the fuel combustion process to be more complete, the vehicle is more efficient, and the operation is more stable" - Chairman of the Vietnam Petroleum Association Bui Ngoc Bao said.
However, this expert also noted that it is necessary to understand that E10 is just a symbol showing the Ethanol content in gasoline. Whether E10 gasoline is of high quality or not depends on the type of carrier gasoline used for blending. When Ethanol is combined with carrier gasoline with higher purity (such as RON 95-IV and RON 95-V), the better the quality of the product.
