Martial arts is a passion
Nguyen Vu Quynh Hoa has received an official certificate from the Vietnam General Martial Arts Federation (VMMAF) and the Vietnam General Martial Arts Team of the Vietnam MMA Team participating in the 33rd SEA Games in December in Thailand.
With a slim figure and a slightly advantageous face, when meeting Nguyen Vu Quynh Hoa, everyone found her very friendly and approachable. The female player is willing to share many things about martial arts and her passion. Quynh Hoa once said she was lucky to know many professional techniques of chess (wushu), muay, kickboxing, jujitsu and now MMA.
However, the most fateful thing for Quynh Hoa is not hesitating to practice to become a professional martial arts athlete. In August this year, Nguyen Vu Quynh Hoa left her mark in her career when she won against opponent Lo Thi Phung in the women's 52kg weightlifting match at the 2025 MMA Lion Championship in Khanh Hoa. She won the championship belt. Nguyen Vu Quynh Hoa is one of the few female martial artists who have won the professional mixed martial arts championship belt up to now.
"Quynh Hoa has good techniques in standing. Most importantly, I always maintain the determination to win matches on the floor, said General Secretary of the Vietnam General Martial Arts Federation - Mr. Mai Thanh Ba.
Remember, after the championship ring match at the above-mentioned MMA Lion Championship 2025, Quynh Hoa was moved to tears and expressed: "I don't know what to say. This victory is my own effort but also a professional preparation from the coaches for me. I feel that pursuing a career as a martial artist is not a mistake.
This year, Quynh Hoa is 22 years old. She started practicing sports at the Thai Nguyen Provincial Sports Training Center in grade 8. Coach Do Thi Thuy at the Thai Nguyen Provincial Sports Training Center is the first teacher to train this female player. Seeing that the student was passionate about martial arts (as Quynh Hoa once said, she really liked practicing taekwondo if she was the first choice), coach Thuy focused on training to help the student know the techniques of traditional martial arts, wushu, kickboxing and especially muay.
Few people know that Quynh Hoa once thought about retiring from her career to focus on other work in 2023. Quynh Hoa shared: "That was the time when I thought a lot that I seemed no longer suitable for the career of a martial artist. I have expressed my intention to resign the coach.
However, fate did not please Quynh Hoa. Coach Do Thi Thuy did not allow her student to give up because that was not the strength of a martial artist. Quynh Hoa confided: "I have had a break of about two months to think more maturely, but I am truly grateful to the teachers because during that time I realized that stopping would mean failure and not being allowed like that! I am determined to return.
As it turns out, this is a lucky thing for Vietnamese sports because there are no athletes with good expertise. Since then, Quynh Hoa has achieved many professional achievements. Importantly, she will represent the Vietnam MMA Team to participate in the 33rd SEA Games for the first time.
Focusing on academic career
After hours of training and competition, Quynh Hoa is a student studying hard at the University of Science, Thai Nguyen University. She determined that she needs to have a specific orientation as well as equip herself with knowledge to do well in professional work when she is out of competition.
Currently, she is a final year student majoring in Chinese at the University of Science, Thai Nguyen University. I really try very hard to ensure time between studying and practicing sports. Exercising is difficult for physical strength. When studying, people struggle to accumulate knowledge. But, I myself am harmonious and happy when I ensure good studying and competing".
Quynh Hoa aims to go to China to continue her in-depth training in sports management. For many people, learning a foreign language requires patience and meticulousness. In particular, Chinese foreign languages are in great need of diligence. Quynh Hoa is not afraid of difficulties because the opponent is very strong on the court, so the words are not strong enough to discourage her.
Recalling the moment in August 2025, Nguyen Vu Quynh Hoa said that when he won the championship belt at the MMA Lion Championship 2025, the leaders of the University of Science, Thai Nguyen University met to congratulate him. Quynh Hoa recalled: At that time, teachers and friends congratulated me on my championship belt achievement. I am proud to contribute a small part to the locality as well as bring an image to my school.
Determined to win the results of the 33rd SEA Games
For the first time, mixed martial arts is included in the official program of the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand. The leaders of the Vietnam General Martial Arts Federation and the professional department carefully reviewed each athlete according to the contents to decide on the right person.
Experts have determined that Quynh Hoa being a member of the Vietnam MMA Team participating in the 33rd SEA Games is a reasonable choice. Management levels predict the possibility of disputing Quynh Hoa's achievements, so from professional consultation, the decision to select the person is made.
Quynh Hoa believes that she is grateful that martial arts helps build a will to not back down in the face of any difficulties. "Girls practicing martial arts is difficult. However, to overcome prejudices and achieve the best results, I was able to do it. I have to thank my family for always cheering me on so that I can fully practice and compete. In sports, you don't always win, but even when you lose, you always keep the spirit of not giving up," Quynh Hoa once shared. Quynh Hoa said that when setting a dream, she tries to pursue it to conquer and complete the task.
Before the championship belt competition at the MMA Lion Championship 2025, not many people predicted Quynh Hoa would win. In fact, on the ring, she maintained her attacking techniques, making it impossible for the opponent to approach and execute locking and tightening strikes.
Therefore, Quynh Hoa won convincingly. The professional coaches of the Vietnam General Martial Arts Federation acknowledge that Quynh Hoa maintains her will and "cooled head" on the ring. That is, she is not affected by anything regardless of who the opponent is.
This is something we really need from the Vietnamese fighters attending the 33rd SEA Games. Because the participating teams all sent their best forces. Quynh Hoa and the Vietnamese athletes are also professionally prepared to compete, said Mr. Ngo Duc Quynh, President of the Vietnam General Martial Arts Federation.
