Labor relations are basically stable.
Reporting at the meeting between the Ho Chi Minh City Confederation of Labor and the Thu Duc City Party Committee, districts, and equivalent superior Party Committees in Ho Chi Minh City on the exchange of labor relations situation, jointly organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Confederation of Labor on the afternoon of November 22, Mr. Phung Thai Quang - Vice President of the Ho Chi Minh City Confederation of Labor - said that in 2024, the labor relations situation in Ho Chi Minh City will be basically stable.
Since the beginning of the year, Ho Chi Minh City has only had 4 labor disputes and collective work stoppages at 4 foreign-invested enterprises with 711 employees participating, because employees have not been assured of information on Tet bonuses, unpaid wages, project termination, and adjustments to regional minimum wages.
According to Mr. Quang, there are currently many potential risks of labor disputes, including businesses owing nearly VND4,500 billion in social insurance to about 870,000 employees and the difference in benefits between businesses in the same industry, region, and area, when some businesses have good benefits, while others cut back or are not transparent, this can easily lead to dissatisfaction among employees and the risk of labor disputes and collective work stoppages.
During the Lunar New Year 2025, the Ho Chi Minh City Labor Federation will direct all levels of unions to coordinate with state management agencies and relevant units to participate in inspecting, examining and supervising the implementation of policies of enterprises for employees according to the law, especially the payment of salaries and bonuses at the end of the year.
At the same time, regularly monitor the situation of employees at agencies, units and enterprises in the payment of salaries and Tet bonuses to promptly coordinate to resolve any problems arising in labor relations, paying special attention to units and enterprises with a large number of employees and at risk of labor disputes.
Mr. Quang also requested the Thu Duc City Party Committee, districts and equivalent superior Party Committees in Ho Chi Minh City to continue to strengthen leadership and direction of local authorities to inspect the implementation of labor laws, pay salaries, bonuses, and take care of union members and employees during Tet to limit labor disputes leading to collective work stoppages, and ensure social security and order.
