Attending the seminar "Vietnamese Farmer Class - 40 Years of Doi Moi: From the aspiration in the fields to the era of reaching out" were Ms. Bui Thi Thom - Vice President of the Central Executive Committee of the Vietnam Farmers' Union, along with speakers, experts, and scientists.
According to the Organizing Committee, the seminar: "Vietnamese Farmers' Class - 40 Years of Doi Moi: From the aspiration in the fields to the era of rise" is organized to review the contributions of the Vietnamese farming class after 40 years of Doi Moi as well as the opportunities and challenges of the new generation of farmers in the era of rise.
Opening the seminar, Prof. Dr. Pham Hong Tung - Vietnam National University, Hanoi delivered a presentation with the theme: "40 years of Doi Moi: The role of farmers as masters - a key factor". According to Mr. Tung, under the leadership of the Party, Vietnam has become the top 3 rice exporting countries in the world. He emphasized that this is "a historical miracle", when the Vietnamese farming class not only saved the nation from hunger but also created an economic, political and social foundation for the country to gradually innovate and overcome the crisis period.

Also according to Prof. Dr. Pham Hong Tung, agriculture is currently facing a new challenge in livelihoods when many agricultural land areas are abandoned, people leave the fields due to low and unstable incomes. To solve the problem of agriculture - farmers - rural areas in the new period, Prof. Dr. Pham Hong Tung raised 4 issues to be solved: Promoting digital transformation and science and technology in agriculture; treating environmental pollution and adapting to climate change; building agricultural models that are competitive globally; and at the same time connecting deeply, connecting in production and service activities, connecting in culture.
At the seminar, answering the question of the greatest contributions of farmers in the 40-year renovation journey, Dr. Le Doan Hop - former Minister of Information and Communications (now the Ministry of Science and Technology) said that after the VI Congress of the Party, agriculture, farmers and rural areas have made strong changes thanks to innovative policies on mechanisms and policies.
According to Dr. Le Doan Hop, farmers and businesses are the two forces that directly create material wealth, so more support policies are needed to promote rural resources. Mr. Hop proposed that the State focus on a group of solutions including: Bringing new techniques and varieties to farmers; bringing loans, agricultural extension officers and infrastructure to rural areas; and at the same time mobilizing businesses to come to farmers in production, helping farmers consume products.
Sharing about the conditions for new generation farmers to promote the application of science and technology in production, Dr. Phung Duc Tien - former Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment emphasized the requirement to develop agriculture in the direction of green transformation, digital transformation and traceability.
According to Mr. Tien, for science and technology to go into production practice in fields, fishing grounds, and forestry farms, first of all, it is necessary to improve farmers' knowledge and awareness. At the same time, science and technology databases must be updated regularly, ensuring "right - enough - clean - living" to serve long-term digital transformation.
Dr. Phung Duc Tien also said that it is necessary to build large raw material areas, link processing plants with production areas and trace the origin. To do this, farmers need to strengthen linkages and organize large-scale production to synchronize farming processes and meet market requirements.

In addition, Dr. Phung Duc Tien proposed to continue to improve mechanisms and policies, cut procedures and remove bottlenecks in infrastructure such as transportation, electricity, and water supply and drainage systems to improve the competitiveness of Vietnamese agriculture.
