Ho Chi Minh City supports Nghe An with 7 billion VND to overcome the consequences of storm No. 10

Nghe An - 7 billion VND was donated to help the province overcome the consequences of storm No. 10 - the storm that caused the province to suffer more than 2,200 billion VND in damage.

On the afternoon of October 6, at the Nghe An Provincial Military Command, the Ho Chi Minh City working delegation led by Mr. Bui Thanh Nhan - Member of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Labor Federation presented 7 billion VND to support Nghe An people to overcome the damage caused by storm No. 10.

Speaking at the support awarding ceremony, Mr. Bui Thanh Nhan said that this is the sentiment of the Party Committee, government, Fatherland Front, Trade Union organizations and people of Ho Chi Minh City towards Nghe An - the locality most severely affected by the recent storm No. 10.

The amount of 7 billion VND will be transferred directly to Nghe An province to support people in damaged areas to restore production and stabilize their lives.

Speaking at the reception, Mr. Kha Van Tam - Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, Chairman of the Nghe An Provincial Federation of Labor expressed his respect and gratitude for the affection, responsibility and spirit of sharing of Ho Chi Minh City.

While Nghe An is struggling to overcome the severe consequences of the storm, the timely support of Ho Chi Minh City is not only a valuable material resource but also a great encouragement, adding determination to people to overcome difficulties, said Mr. Tam.

According to a quick report from Nghe An Provincial People's Committee, the damage caused by storm No. 10 is estimated at more than VND 2,200 billion. The whole province had 4 deaths, 17 injuries, more than 63,500 houses with unroofed roofs, 85 houses completely collapsed, and nearly 2,100 houses were severely damaged. Transportation, irrigation, electricity, telecommunications, healthcare, education and agricultural production systems are all seriously affected.

In the agricultural sector, more than 4,800 hectares of rice, 8,100 hectares of vegetables and 7,800 hectares of perennial trees were damaged; 48,000 hectares of forest were affected; more than 400,000 poultry and 1,400 livestock died. Nearly 9,000 hectares of fish ponds, 245 hectares of shrimp ponds and 46 cages were washed away or damaged.

The storm also damaged 332 schools, dozens of medical facilities and cultural relics, causing roofs to be blown off and landslides; 4,901 electric poles to be broken, 87km of power lines to be broken, and many roads to be cut off.

Consecutive storms No. 8, 9, 10 and floods caused by the storm have killed 19 people and many people are missing. Many houses and production and business establishments had their roofs blown off and suffered heavy damage. People across the northern and central mountainous provinces are struggling to cope with floods and heavy losses in human lives and property due to floods and thunderstorms.
