Focus on collecting accumulated waste
On June 15, representatives of Da Lat Urban Services Joint Stock Company said that the unit is mobilizing maximum manpower and vehicles to collect and transport the amount of garbage accumulated in the area.

According to the plan, by June 16 at the latest, the entire amount of accumulated garbage will be basically handled, ensuring environmental sanitation and restoring urban aesthetics in central areas.
The interruption caused dozens of garbage trucks to line up outside the factory, unable to put garbage into treatment, leading to great pressure on the collection system in inner city wards.
Previously, Green Energy Environment Co., Ltd. - the factory operator - had issued a notice of temporary suspension of operation due to difficulties in maintaining operation.

The reason is said to be related to restricting account transactions as required by the judgment enforcement agency, causing businesses to be unable to pay necessary costs such as fuel, machinery repair and regular operating costs.
Ms. Tran Thi Vu Loan, Chairwoman of Xuan Huong Ward People's Committee - Da Lat, informed that on the afternoon of June 14, after a working session between local authorities and businesses, the factory restored operation, received and treated waste again.

This helps significantly reduce waste pressure in the central area of Da Lat, which is in the peak period of generating domestic waste from residents, services and tourism.
A long-term strategy is needed
According to many opinions, this incident continues to show the systemic weakness in Da Lat's waste treatment work when it is heavily dependent on a single treatment facility.
Just a short interruption can cause congestion of hundreds of tons of garbage, directly affecting the environment and the image of a tourist city.
Da Lat Solid Waste Treatment Plant was put into operation in 2015, with a designed capacity of about 200 tons of waste/day.

However, in the context of urban and tourism development, the current amount of waste has increased to about 350–370 tons/day, far exceeding the initial designed capacity.
Over the years, this factory has also repeatedly temporarily stopped receiving waste due to issues related to treatment unit prices, cost payments and operating conditions.
These interruptions not only put great pressure on the collection system but also affect the living environment of people in the surrounding area, when the risk of pollution, odors and leachate occurs.
The above reality shows that solid waste treatment in Da Lat needs a more comprehensive solution, including upgrading technology, expanding treatment capacity, diversifying waste treatment options and reducing dependence on a single facility.

Along with that, re-planning the collection system, strengthening waste sorting at source and improving management capacity are also considered long-term solutions.
From there, to ensure a green - clean - beautiful urban environment, in line with the sustainable tourism city development orientation.
Previously, Lao Dong Newspaper reflected on the situation of many garbage collection points in Da Lat area being overloaded after nearly 3 days of the Da Lat Solid Waste Treatment Plant stopping operation.
Domestic waste from households, markets, restaurants, and hotels continuously arises but is not transported and treated, leading to piles and spilling onto sidewalks and roads.
Many types of organic waste begin to decompose, leak water, and emit a strong stench in hot weather interspersed with early rain, affecting people's lives and tourism activities.
