On October 19, Thanh Chuong General Hospital received 6 patients with alcohol poisoning, of which 4 were in critical condition and had to be put on ventilators, and transferred them to Nghe An General Hospital for treatment.
According to Doctor Phan Nhan Hau - Head of the Department of Surgery - Gastroenterology, at around 12 noon on the same day, the hospital received a report from the Son Lam Commune Health Station about a group of people showing signs of poisoning after drinking alcohol and medicine. Immediately, the hospital activated an internal red alert, mobilized human resources, medicine and emergency vehicles.
"When admitted to the hospital, the patients were all in a state of convulsions and coma, some had stopped breathing. We performed an endotracheal Tube, took a ventilator, and used intensive care drugs before transferring them to the hospital, said Dr. Hau.
The leader of Son Lam Commune People's Committee added that as soon as the incident was discovered, the authorities directed the first aid station to mobilize public service vehicles and private ambulances to support patient transportation.
There are currently 2 mild cases being monitored at Thanh Chuong General Hospital. However, according to the direction of Nghe An Department of Health, these patients will also be transferred to prevent bad developments.
The cause of the poisoning is being investigated by the authorities. Initially, it was determined that the above group of people had been drinking alcohol and medicine together before showing symptoms. The bottle of wine involved has been sealed for clarification.
