Traditional dishes that easily cause gout to explode
Animal organs - top "culprits": Dishes such as pig intestines, liver, heart, kidneys or blood pudding often appear in Tet feasts and are favorite dishes of many people. However, animal organs contain very high levels of purines - substances that when metabolized will create uric acid. Consuming a lot can cause uric acid levels in the blood to increase rapidly, thereby triggering acute gout attacks with manifestations of severe pain and swelling in joints.
Protein-rich seafood: Shrimp, crab, squid, seafood, especially small fish such as herring, sardines... also belong to the group of foods rich in purines. At year-end parties and New Year gatherings, seafood is often processed diversely such as steamed, grilled, hotpot, fried, making it easy for eaters to exceed the recommended amount.
Red meat and savory dishes: Beef, goat and braised, grilled, hot pot dishes with many spices are familiar choices for holidays. Red meat contains a medium to high amount of purines. When eaten for many consecutive days, uric acid easily accumulates. In addition, salty and greasy foods also reduce the kidney's uric acid excretion efficiency.
Alcohol and beer - dangerous "catalysts": Alcohol and beer are factors that significantly increase the risk of gout. Ethanol increases the production of uric acid and reduces the ability to be excreted through the kidneys. In particular, beer contains purines from beer yeast, which is even more disadvantageous for people at risk of gout. Drinking for many days during Tet is the reason why many people have to be hospitalized after the holidays.
Staying up late, irregular eating, and lack of exercise during vacation also disrupt metabolism, causing uric acid to rise.
How to eat to prevent gout?
Limit high-risk foods: Reduce animal organs, seafood, red meat, and greasy foods.
Control alcohol and beer: Avoid drinking continuously for many days; drink alternately with filtered water.
Increase green vegetables and fruits: Supports metabolism and uric acid elimination.
Drink enough water: Maintain 2–2.5 liters/day for effective kidney function.
Maintain light exercise: Walking and light exercise help improve metabolism.
