Previously, the Food Safety Department also warned that there were cases of poisoning after using the Detox Apple weight loss product purchased on social networks. According to the analysis results of the National Institute of Forensic Medicine, the above product contains Sibutramine, a substance prohibited for use in health protection foods.
Through data search, the Food Safety Department has not yet issued a Certificate of Acceptance of Product Declaration Registration for the product Detox Apple.
The Food Safety Department recommends that consumers do not buy and use the above products. If you find the product circulating on the market, please immediately notify the authorities for handling according to the provisions of law.
Dr. Nguyen Thanh Phong, former Director of the Department of Food Safety (Ministry of Health), said that Sibutramine is a banned substance that has negative effects on the cardiovascular system, but is often abused in weight loss products because of its effect of reducing appetite. This is an active ingredient that helps obese people lose weight, but is especially dangerous for consumers, especially those with a history of cardiovascular disease and high blood pressure due to its negative effects on the cardiovascular system.
In Vietnam, since 2010, the Drug Administration of Vietnam (Ministry of Health) has issued a document to suspend the import of Sibutramine raw materials. On April 14, 2011, the Drug Administration of Vietnam issued a document to suspend the nationwide circulation of drugs containing the active ingredient Sibutramine and recall all drugs containing the active ingredient Sibutramine, due to undesirable effects. The Department has withdrawn the registration numbers of all drugs containing the active ingredient Sibutramine.
Sibutramine is on the list of banned substances used in the production and trading of health protection foods (Circular No. 10/2021/TT-BYT). "For profit, some manufacturers disregard business ethics and consumer health, secretly adding banned substances when producing health protection foods. This has been discovered by authorities when inspecting and post-inspecting the products" - Dr. Nguyen Thanh Phong was indignant.
