On November 20, Bac Quang Tri Regional General Hospital said that it had just provided emergency care to two sisters who were poisoned by charcoal gas due to burning charcoal for heating while sleeping.
According to the hospital, when admitted, both patients were in critical condition, in a deep coma, with stiff limbs, and large urinary tract that was not autonomous and had to be placed in the airway for ventilators.
Earlier, on the same morning, two sisters, N.T.V and N.T.Ng (both over 60 years old), residing in Nam Gianh commune, were discovered by locals lying unconscious in their house. The initial cause was determined to be burning charcoal for heating, causing charcoal gas to accumulate in a closed room, leading to severe poisoning.
After receiving initial emergency care and temporarily overcoming the critical condition, the two patients were transferred to higher-level facilities for further treatment. The hospital recommends that people absolutely do not burn charcoal in closed rooms for heating to avoid the risk of coal poisoning, especially during cold weather.
