During the working trip to attend the high-level joint discussion session of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly and carry out bilateral activities in the US, on the morning of September 23 (local time), in New York City, General Secretary and President To Lam received representatives of some of the world's leading economic groups, according to VNA.
Receiving Mr. Robert Thomson, Senior Vice President cum Head of Global Government Relations of Visa Group - one of the world's leading payment technology companies, General Secretary and President To Lam welcomed Visa Group for accompanying the Vietnamese market for more than 30 years, from the first card transactions to current initiatives on digital payments, public transport, public services, digital tourism and business support.
In the new phase, the two sides have a solid foundation towards building larger-scale digital payment ecosystems, capable of replicating and creating a clear impact on the economy.
Expressing his pleasure to meet General Secretary and President To Lam, Mr. Robert Thomson wished to further deepen cooperative relations with Vietnamese partners; support Vietnam in digital transformation; and implement Vietnam's priorities in digital payments.
Mr. Robert Thomson emphasized that Vietnam is developing very dynamically with many new features in science, technology, innovation, especially in electronic payment methods. These are also areas suitable for Visa's development investment priorities. Therefore, Visa wishes to continue to participate more deeply in Vietnam's innovation and digital transformation picture.
General Secretary and President To Lam stated clearly that Vietnam is promoting national digital transformation, developing the digital economy, digital society and digital government. In which, digital payments are an important component of the digital economic infrastructure, directly affecting productivity, transparency, transaction costs, e-commerce, tourism, public services and business market access capacity; wishing Visa Group to accompany Vietnam in achieving this goal.
In the coming time, General Secretary and President To Lam requested Visa Group to focus on prioritizing supporting Vietnam in expanding digital payments in the public sector and public services; sharing international experiences on developing convenient and interconnected digital public transport; building a digital tourism ecosystem and enhancing the tourist experience, researching with Vietnamese partners to build a continuous digital tourism journey; bringing small and medium-sized enterprises deeper into the digital economy; sharing technology, experience and early warning models on fraud, coordinating human resource training and supporting capacity improvement of banks, payment intermediary organizations, businesses and management agencies.
General Secretary and President To Lam affirmed that Vietnam is ready to accompany Visa Group to turn current initiatives into larger-scale programs and measurable results.
On the same day, General Secretary and President To Lam received Mr. Troy Rohrbaugh, co-chairman of JPMorgan Chase - one of the leading financial institutions in the world.
