Data from FlightRadar24 shows a dangerous situation that just occurred at Benito Juarez International Airport (Mexico City) on July 21, when flight Aerome Mexico 1631 flew right above Delta 590 on the same 5R runway, then continued to land in front of the plane in a rush.
According to FlightRadar24, at the time of the incident, the two aircraft were only about 60m apart, raising serious concerns about aviation safety.
Delta Airlines said that its Boeing was preparing to take off from Mexico City to Atlanta (USA), with 150 passengers in space, and had reached a speed of about 96 km/h on the runway when the crew decided to cancel the takeoff because they discovered another plane landing right in front, on the same runway.
The Delta returned to the terminal shortly after and departed later in the morning of the same day.
The case is being investigated by the authorities. Delta Airlines affirmed that it will fully cooperate with authorities to verify the cause.
Meanwhile, Aeromexico also issued a statement saying it is working closely with authorities to comprehensively investigate the incident. The airline representative emphasized: At Aeromexico, the safety of passengers and staff is always a top priority.
However, the Civil Aviation Authority of Mexico has yet to comment on this serious incident.
aviation expert Steve Ganyard - a former fighter pilot - commented: "It seems that there was a mistake in the communication process. Either air traffic control allows two aircraft to operate on the same runway at the same time, or does not clearly notify the landing gear about whether to use the left or right runway.
