President Trump announces ban on CNN from entering the White House

On September 18 (Washington time), US President Donald Trump announced the ban on 3 news agencies, CNN, MS NOW and Politico, from entering the White House.

According to AFP news agency, US President Donald Trump announced the ban on CNN, MS NOW and Politico news agencies operating in the White House, and accused these news agencies of continuously posting "fake news" about his administration.

In a post on the social network Truth Social, Mr. Trump said the ban would take effect immediately and warned that other media outlets could face similar measures.

In the Oval Office afterwards, Mr. Trump said the decision did not come from a specific article but was the result of information published by these news agencies for a long time. He accused them of deliberately spreading negative news to undermine the Republican Party and his administration.

US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth also supported this move, accusing the news agencies of endangering soldiers through articles that he did not specifically mention.

However, the implementation of the ban is not clear. After Mr. Trump's statement, CNN and Politico reporters still appeared at the White House and continued to report. CNN said that if the ban is implemented, this will be an illegal act of infringing on the freedom of the press protected by the US Constitution. Politico declared that it will protect the rights under the First Amendment of the US Constitution.

Mr. Bruce Brown, Chairman of the Reporters' Committee for Freedom of the Press, said that banning media outlets from reporting content is a violation of the First Amendment and could be rejected by the court if sued.

This is not the first time the Trump administration has restricted access to the press. During his first term, the White House once revoked CNN reporter Jim Acosta's right to work, but a court later requested restoration of his access.
