The news that Mr. Hoang Anh Tuan has left the coaching position of Becamex Binh Duong club, perhaps, many people do not feel surprised. The 56-year-old coach left after only 5 months working at the team of Thu Dau Mot. Without going into the reason for the two sides parting ways, the problem that can be seen here is that a degree is not a guarantee for success.
Mr. Tuan is often described by experts as “one of the most qualified coaches in Vietnam”. He is also the only Vietnamese coach selected by the German Football Federation (DFB) to attend the A-level coaching course (the highest level) in 2009.
The strategist from Khanh Hoa has had success with youth football (leading Vietnam's U teams), so he came to Go Dau Stadium in July this year with quite high expectations.
He made interesting statements and made notable decisions - such as using only domestic strikers, so that Binh Duong can aim to improve their performance after finishing the 2023-2024 season in 9th place on the V.League rankings. After 3 months and 9 rounds of the 2024-2025 season, Binh Duong ranked... 8th. There was an improvement, but not significant.
Of course, there are many rumors and gossips about this issue, each side has its own problems, so that people can see more clearly that "many degrees are not a guarantee of success anywhere". In other words, in an incompatible environment, degrees are just fancy pieces of paper.
Mr. Tuan is a truly talented coach, but it is not without reason that people say he is only suitable for youth football, after his club-level coaching career did not leave an impression, especially in Khanh Hoa and Hai Phong. He is not suitable for Binh Duong, or maybe the club itself has problems with the coaches - because even names like Phan Thanh Hung, Le Huynh Duc, Tran Minh Chien, Lu Dinh Tuan did not have a long time working here.
When it comes to compatibility, sometimes “it's not what it seems”, because of individual issues.
