On April 28, the People's Council of Dong Thap province, term X, 2021-2026, held the 14th extraordinary session to vote on 8 important drafts. Including voting on the merger of commune-level administrative units. Mr. Phan Van Thang - Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Council - chaired the meeting.
Attending were Mr. Le Quoc Phong - Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the Provincial National Assembly Delegation; Mr. Tran Tri Quang - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, along with representatives of the leaders of agencies and delegates.

After listening to the proposal on merging commune-level administrative units, the delegate voted 100% in favor: after the arrangement, Dong Thap province has 45 commune-level administrative units. Of which, 38 communes and 7; reduced 96 administrative units at the commune and ward levels, reaching a rate of 68.09%. All communes and wards must ensure the principles and criteria of arrangement according to current regulations.

Chairman of Dong Thap Provincial People's Council Phan Van Thang proposed the Provincial People's Committee to urgently complete the scheme of the communal administrative unit to submit to the Ministry of Home Affairs for appraisal and report to the Government to submit to the Standing Committee of the National Assembly in accordance with the set schedule. At the same time, preparing a detailed plan to deploy immediately after the Resolution of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly, coordinate with the People's Committee of Tien Giang province to summarize the report to the Ministry of Home Affairs evaluation of the Project on arranging administrative units at the provincial level.
