On the occasion of Mr. Donald John Trump being elected President of the United States of America, on November 7, General Secretary To Lam, President Luong Cuong and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh sent congratulatory messages.
According to the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, senior Vietnamese leaders affirmed that Vietnam considers the US a partner of strategic importance and believes that, with the solid foundation built by many generations of leaders of the two countries over the past three decades, and with the strong support of President Donald Trump in his first term as well as his new term, the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership will continue to develop extensively, effectively, and sustainably, for the interests and aspirations of the people of the two countries and for peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.
On the same day, Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan also sent a congratulatory message to Vice President-elect James David Vance.
At noon on November 6, Vietnam time, the results of the 2024 presidential election in the United States were decided with Republican candidate Donald Trump winning more electoral votes than the 270 electoral votes required by law, thereby defeating Democratic candidate Kamala Harris to become the 47th President of the United States. This is also Mr. Trump's second term as the owner of the White House, after the 2016-2020 term.
Immediately after the results were announced, Mr. Trump gave a speech to a large crowd of supporters in Palm Beach, Florida.
The Electoral College is scheduled to meet on December 17 to cast its official electoral votes to elect Mr. Trump as the next president of the United States. Mr. Trump will be sworn in at Capitol Hill on January 20, 2025.
