On April 25, the 8th term People's Council of Quang Tri province held its 31st session.
At the session, the policy of establishing Quang Tri province on the basis of merging Quang Binh province and Quang Tri province was considered.
According to submission No. 69 dated April 23 of the People's Committee of Quang Tri province, Quang Tri province currently has a natural area of over 4,701km2, a population of 781,848 people, including 10 district-level administrative units (ADUs) and 119 commune-level ADUs. Quang Binh province has an area of over 7,998km2, a population of 1,063,487 people, including 8 district-level administrative units and 145 commune-level administrative units.
After merging Quang Tri and Quang Binh provinces to establish Quang Tri province, the new province has an area of over 12,699km2 (254%) and a population of 1,845,335 people (131-81% of the standard).
The new Quang Tri province will have 78 commune-level administrative units. The administrative - political center of Quang Tri province after the merger is located in the current Quang Binh province.
After taking note of the opinions of the delegates attending the meeting, the People's Council of Quang Tri province conducted a unanimous vote to approve the policy of establishing Quang Tri province on the basis of merging Quang Binh province and Quang Tri province.
Previously, the People's Committee of Quang Tri province had collected voters' opinions on the project to establish Quang Tri province on the basis of merging Quang Binh province and Quang Tri province.
As a result, more than 97% of voters (172,867 voters/177,490 voters) participated in giving their opinions, of which nearly 99% of voters agreed with the project.
