This morning (January 21), in Hanoi, General Nguyen Tan Cuong - Member of the Party Central Committee, Standing Member of the Central Military Commission, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army (VPA), Deputy Minister of National Defense - chaired the General Staff's January 2025 meeting.
According to the Ministry of National Defense Information Portal, speaking at the conference, General Nguyen Tan Cuong requested the entire army to strictly maintain combat readiness; monitor and grasp the situation, especially in key areas, promptly advise and effectively handle situations, and avoid being passive or surprised.
Coordinate with forces to maintain security and order nationwide, especially during the Lunar New Year 2025 and the 95th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam; submit to the Prime Minister for promulgation the Working Program of the Central Steering Committee on defense of military regions and defense zones in 2025; promulgate the Combat Readiness Plan to protect the 50th Anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification.
Closely monitor and manage border routes, patrol, control, prevent and strictly handle violations of entry and exit regulations on the border. Strengthen propaganda, patrol, chase away and prevent foreign ships from violating and encroaching on Vietnam's waters.
Implement synchronous measures to prevent and combat illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing. Manage and use defense land strictly and in accordance with the law.
Strictly implement safety measures in flight operations; strictly manage unmanned aircraft and ultralight aircraft. Strengthen control of information in cyberspace, ensure timely communication and command for the entire army.
General Nguyen Tan Cuong also requested agencies and units to continue adjusting the organization of forces according to the Ministry of National Defense's plan on organizing the Vietnam People's Army for the period 2021 - 2030 and the following years. Direct and provide specific instructions to localities to organize the military handover ceremony in 2025; the entire army must do a good job of preparing for training in 2025.
Continue to direct and monitor the training forces participating in the parade and marching in the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South, National Reunification, the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. Maintain strict regimes, regularity, discipline management, ensure safety when participating in traffic. Patrol and guard to protect the safety of agencies, units and warehouses.
Along with that, strictly maintain the rescue and relief on-call regime at all levels, proactively grasp the situation, advise and propose timely and effective handling of situations, incidents of natural disasters, search and rescue, epidemics and environmental disasters. Strengthen the inspection of information security and network security at agencies and units. Deploy defense diplomacy activities, international cooperation, and United Nations peacekeeping as planned. Deploy preparations for the 9th Vietnam - China Border Defense Friendship Exchange in Lang Son province.
