Also on the morning of December 25, the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese held a workshop on “65 years of connecting overseas Vietnamese with the country (1959-2024) and 20 years of implementing Resolution No. 36-NQ/TW of the Politburo on work with overseas Vietnamese (2004-2024)”.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son pointed out that the conference took place at a very meaningful time when the whole nation is striving to fulfill the goals of the 13th National Party Congress, creating a solid foundation to enter a new era, an era of growth for the Vietnamese nation.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister emphasized: “2024 marks an important milestone when Resolution 36 turns 20 years old. It can be said that Resolution 36 is a document of historical significance, of special importance, of long-term strategic significance, demonstrating the Party's innovative and breakthrough thinking on the role and importance of the overseas Vietnamese community, both imbued with the tradition of humanity and tolerance of our nation, and promoting the spirit of great national solidarity, with the slogan: "Overseas Vietnamese are an inseparable part and a resource of the Vietnamese ethnic community, an important factor contributing to strengthening the cooperative and friendly relations between our country and other countries."

Also at the workshop, Deputy Foreign Minister Le Thi Thu Hang - Chairwoman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese - pointed out, "The past 20 years have witnessed many returns of children far from home. The emotional tears of children who have been away for a long time and are able to set foot on their homeland show that Vietnamese people, no matter where they are, no matter the reason for leaving, deep in their hearts always have a deep love for their homeland, looking forward to the day they return and contribute to their homeland."

Over the past 20 years, the return of overseas Vietnamese businessmen to invest and do business in the country has become increasingly prominent. The total amount of remittances from 1993 to 2023 reached about 230 billion USD, equivalent to the FDI capital disbursed in the same period.

“It can be affirmed that after 20 years of implementation, Resolution 36 has created a major turning point and comprehensive transformation in all aspects of work for overseas Vietnamese. The Resolution has a long-lasting vitality, is deeply contemporary and continues to be a guideline in implementing work for overseas Vietnamese,” Ms. Hang shared.
