As an important national project, a key focus of the transport sector, the Cho Moi - Bac Kan expressway is currently focusing on speeding up the progress of site clearance.
To date, the compensation plan has been approved for all 1,624 affected households, with a total cost of nearly 557 billion VND, of which about 485 billion VND has been paid.
The area of land that has been handed over has reached more than 179 hectares, equal to 68.4% of the total area to be recovered, corresponding to a length of 18.1 km of the expressway with clean land.

In Thanh Thinh commune, 697/773 households have handed over more than 59 hectares of land, Thanh Mai commune has 403/413 households, nearly 97% of the route length has been completed.
Bac Kan ward recorded the highest progress with 433/438 households receiving compensation and handing over 48.5 hectares of land, basically meeting construction requirements.
In addition to land compensation, the relocation of technical infrastructure items will also be implemented synchronously to ensure clean land for project construction on schedule.
Regarding resettlement, the project has 300 households that must be relocated, of which 67 households are located in 2 concentrated resettlement areas expected to be completed before the first quarter of 2026.
While waiting for the resettlement project to be completed, households will be supported with house rental fees according to regulations.
In 2025, the project was allocated more than VND 761 billion for site clearance, and has so far disbursed nearly VND 530 billion, reaching 95.7%, mainly paid to people and relocated infrastructure.

Progress is still stuck when some households have proposed adjusting compensation prices, requesting the early completion of resettlement areas or illegal construction on agricultural land.
Local authorities and the Land Fund Development Center are continuing to dialogue and mobilize, and at the same time, recommending that the province consider promptly resolving arising issues to ensure progress.
The People's Committee of Thai Nguyen province requested the Management Board of the Northern Traffic and Agricultural Construction Investment Project to closely coordinate with localities to complete the handover of the site before October 15, 2025.
The completion of site clearance on time will ensure the progress of the expressway construction, creating momentum for socio-economic development for the Northern midland and mountainous areas.
The Cho Moi - Bac Kan road project has a total length of nearly 29km. Of which, the Cho Moi - Bac Kan Expressway is over 28km long; the extended section is about 0.4km.
The expressway is invested with a scale of 4 lanes, a roadbed width of 22m, a design speed of 80km/h, and a connecting route with a roadbed width of 12m.
The total investment is more than VND 5,750 billion from the State budget, invested by Project Management Board 2, with an implementation period of 24 months.
