Recently, people in Hon Tre, Hon Son, Nam Du (specifically Kien Hai area, An Giang province) have reported the problem of garbage being dumped all over the seawall and burned themselves. Informing about this issue, on December 11, at a regular press conference, Mr. Vo Van Len - Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of An Giang - confirmed that the people's reflections were correct.
Accordingly, the People's Committee of Kien Giang province (old) has a policy of assigning the Department of Science and Technology to invest in incinerators for island communes in the province in general and the Kien Hai special zone in particular. Up to now, 3 incinerators have been invested in. In Hon Tre, the incinerator has a capacity of 330kg/hour, Hon Son has a capacity of 500kg/hour and An Son has a capacity of 350kg/hour. Nam Du alone has not yet invested in a incinerator because the site has not been arranged, so household waste is treated at the temporary landfill.
The Department of Agriculture and Environment will issue a document requesting the People's Committee of Kien Hai Special Zone to operate the incinerator regularly and have solutions to improve the efficiency of incinerator treatment to thoroughly handle the amount of waste generated, not allowing waste to spill to the seabed.

The Department of Agriculture and Environment has also presided over and coordinated with the People's Committee of Kien Hai district and the People's Committee of Lai Son commune (before the merger) to implement a pilot model of classifying and treating household waste at source using the IMO micro-local solution and has transferred the results to the locality (now Kien Hai special zone) to continue implementing and replicating on other islands. With this solution, the amount of organic waste can be composted into fertilizer to grow trees, vegetables... on the island.
The Department of Agriculture and Environment will issue a document requesting the People's Committee of Kien Hai Special Zone to continue guiding people on the island to classify waste into 3 groups: Food waste, recyclable waste, recyclable waste and remaining waste.
For the group of organic waste, IMO microorganisms will be treated by the method of culverting into organic matter to use as fertilizer for crops in public areas, scattered crops on roads around the island, across the island and instructing people to use them for agricultural cultivation. Recyclable and reusable waste will be collected for scrap sale. The amount of remaining waste will be significantly reduced and treated by incineration at the incinerator invested in Hon Tre and Hon Son.
For Nam Du that does not have a incinerator, the remaining waste will be collected and temporarily treated at the existing landfill while waiting for investment in incinerators or transported to be treated at incinerators on neighboring islands.
