On the afternoon of December 11, the leader of the People's Committee of Hiep Thanh commune (Lam Dong) said that he had organized support to relocate many households in Quang Hiep village to safe places due to serious landslides and subsidence in the pine hill area of about 35 hectares, threatening residential areas.
The locality has relocated assets and people, sealed houses, and banned people from passing through areas at high risk of landslides on the above pine hill to safe places.
Accordingly, there were 10 households in the danger zone but did not comply with the evacuation, the authorities organized forced evacuation of people and property to safe places during the recent flood.
According to the People's Committee of Hiep Thanh commune, the above area has been home to people for many years. The landslides have occurred on the hillsides since 2024, the locality has repeatedly warned of the risk of landslides.
Currently, the entire area has been warned for authorities to continue surveying, preparing records, and reporting to seek opinions from Lam Dong provincial leaders on the long-term handling direction.
landslides with many cracks and subsidence from the top of the hill extend out to the surrounding area, close to residential areas. In particular, many houses were approached by landslides behind their houses, overflowed into the kitchen, and even part of their houses collapsed.
Currently, although the rain has stopped, landslides continue, local authorities have been forced to urgently evacuate households in dangerous areas to ensure the safety of people's lives and property.
On the people's side, they hope that the locality will soon have a plan to overcome the landslide or a long-term plan so that they can soon stabilize their lives.
According to Duc Trong Protective Forest Management Board, the 35ha pine hill area belongs to part of lot a, compartment 5, Sub-compartment 277B. In this area, the area at risk of landslides is about 1.73ha, of which 1.18ha of land has poor forests and 0.55ha of land without forests.
Recently, the unit has coordinated with the People's Committee of Hiep Thanh commune to propagate and warn households living near the above area about the risk of landslides; at the same time, proposed that competent authorities develop a long-term plan to prevent landslides and natural disasters in this area to ensure safety.
During the flood period from November to early December, Hiep Thanh was also one of the localities in Lam Dong province that suffered heavy damage to people's houses, property, and crops.
