The People's Committee of Dong Thap province has just issued a Decision on announcing an emergency situation of landslides on the Tien River bank in the Tien River embankment area to prevent erosion in Thuong Thoi Tien town, Hong Ngu district (now Thuong Phuoc commune), Dong Thap province.
Accordingly, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Dong Thap province decided to announce an emergency situation of landslides on the Tien River bank in the Thuong Thoi Tien embankment area with the following developments and scope: On August 8, 2025 and August 12, 2025, in the Thuong Thoi Tien embankment area (a section of embankment nearly 2,800 m long), there were landslides and subsidence at 4 points with a total length of about 350 m. The landslides and subsidence situation was extremely complicated and unpredictable, directly threatening the safety of natural disaster prevention works, technical infrastructure systems, production activities of Nova Thabico fruit processing factory and people's travel. The remaining embankment area with a length of about 2,450 m also has a potential safety risk, with subsidence and landslides at any time.

Dong Thap province has deployed emergency measures to respond and overcome the consequences to prevent and minimize damage caused by landslides. The relevant agencies and local authorities have organized an emergency handling of the severely eroded and subsided sections and neighboring areas affected, put up signs, and block off dangerous areas. On the other hand, continue to closely monitor the developments of landslides and subsidence, immediately deploy solutions and solutions to support businesses and people to relocate assets and belongings when detecting a risk of landslides, ensure absolute safety of life and minimize damage to state, businesses and people's property.
In addition, the management unit urgently coordinates with relevant agencies and units to survey and assess the risk of dangerous situations occurring at vulnerable locations along the embankment; proactively consult with professional units and consultants to urgently deploy necessary measures to prevent landslides and subsidence while waiting for solutions to handle the foundation. In addition, widely announce on the media about the landslide situation so that people know and proactively prevent it; at the same time, strictly prohibit vehicles from passing through the area.
Regarding implementation, the Provincial People's Committee assigned the Department of Agriculture and Environment to preside over and coordinate with relevant agencies and units to urgently coordinate with relevant agencies and units to survey and assess the risk of dangerous situations at vulnerable locations along the embankment; proactively consult with specialized units and consultants to urgently determine the causes to implement necessary measures to prevent landslides and subsidence arising during the waiting period for solutions to handle the foundation.
At the same time, the department will strengthen and coordinate with the People's Committee of Thuong Phuoc commune to monitor the development of landslides and subsidence along the entire route; consult with specialized units to assess the risk of dangerous situations at weak locations; deploy necessary measures to limit the occurrence of landslides; urge the consulting unit to complete the assessment report and propose a plan to handle the facility to overcome subsidence and landslides of Thuong Thoi Tien embankment to ensure technical requirements according to regulations, efficiency and economy; report to the Provincial People's Committee for consideration and decision.
The People's Committee of Thuong Phuoc commune is assigned to send forces to be on duty to closely monitor the developments of landslides and subsidence; support the dismantling and relocation of construction items in dangerous areas to safe places; install signs prohibiting vehicles and people from passing through the area, ensuring the motto "four on-site" in case any unexpected situations can occur.
Thuong Thoi Tien Embankment under the Project "management and mitigation of drought and flood risks in the Mekong Subregion" is 4,065 m long, divided into 3 phases with a budget of hundreds of billions of VND; of which, phase 1 is 2,765 m long, completed and handed over for use in March 2017; phase 2 is 460 m long and phase 3 is 840 m long, both completed and handed over for use in October 2019.
