Ke Go Lake overflow is eroded in large areas, sweeping away many trees

TRẦN TUẤN |

Ha Tinh - Complex rain and floods along with water discharge caused the overflow of Doc Mieu of Ke Go Lake in Cam Due Commune to collapse, sweeping away many trees.

Currently, the Doc Mieu spillway of Ke Go lake is heavily eroded, extending about 700m. At many locations, the soil was dug 25 - 30m deep from the edge of the landslide down to the abyss.

A series of people's acacia trees were broken and washed away by the water due to landslides. The cracks stretched hundreds of meters along the downstream area, continuing to spread after the rain.

People in the area are worried that landslides are getting more and more serious, especially during the rainy season - when Ke Go lake has to continuously release water to regulate. Many households have recommended studying the construction of a solid embankment system to protect production land.

The family of Mr. Pham Cong Thuc (born in 1979, My Yen village, Cam Due commune) has nearly 6,000 4-year-old acacia trees planted about 300m from Doc Mieu spillway. The acacia is at the time of preparing for harvest, but many areas have completely eroded after the flood discharge at the end of October.

According to Mr. Thuc, landslides have begun to appear for many years, especially the historic flood in 2020.

Recently, during the major flood from October 28 to November 4, 2025, Ke Go Lake released overflow with the highest flow of 550 m3/s. Although not a large discharge level, prolonged rain soaked the soil and water, causing further landslides in large areas.

Mr. Dang Van Thanh - Head of the Economic Department of Cam Due Commune - said that landslides and riverbank erosion in the downstream of Ke Go Lake have been complicated in recent years, greatly affecting part of the acacia trees that people have planted.

According to Mr. Thanh, the locality has implemented temporary reinforcement measures but the landslide volume is too large, while commune resources are limited. Therefore, we hope that the superiors will have a long-term solution to effectively prevent landslides.
