On December 25, in Rach Gia City, the Command of Coast Guard Region 4 coordinated with the People's Committee of Kien Giang province to organize a conference to disseminate and popularize laws on combating illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing.
Through the Conference, the aim is to propagate and disseminate to raise awareness among the people about the Party's viewpoints, policies and guidelines on the task of protecting sea and island sovereignty in the new situation and the provisions of the law on IUU. Focus on ship owners with many fishing vessels or at high risk of violating IUU and fishermen in Kien Giang province.
At the Conference, delegates watched a report on the work of combating IUU fishing by the Command of Coast Guard Region 4, and watched a video introducing the traditions, functions, tasks, and powers of the Vietnam Coast Guard. The propagandist of the Command of Coast Guard Region 4 informed delegates about the content of Resolution No. 04/2024 of the Council of Judges of the Supreme People's Court on guiding the application of a number of provisions of the Penal Code on criminal prosecution for acts related to illegal exploitation, trading, and transportation of aquatic products and related legal provisions. Results of the work of combating IUU fishing and the current situation of violations in the past.
The Coast Guard Region 4 Command distributed propaganda materials; presented national flags to fishing boat owners, captains, and the Kien Giang Province Fisheries Association; and presented many gifts to fishermen in difficult circumstances in the area.
Speaking at the conference, Colonel Nguyen Van Tranh - Deputy Commander of the Law Command of the Coast Guard Region 4 - emphasized: "Through this conference, we would like to send to you the contents about the current situation of IUU fishing violations. Information for you to better understand the functions, tasks and powers of the Vietnam Coast Guard to share, support and contribute with the Coast Guard in particular and the political system in general to be determined to remove the yellow card in the 5th inspection by the European Commission".
