On the evening of October 31, Mr. Tran Viet Dung - Chairman of Nam Cua Viet commune (Quang Tri province) said that at about 4:22 p.m. the same day, people in Le Xuyen village suddenly heard a loud explosion coming from a rice field near their home.
After receiving the information, the Nam Cua Viet Commune Police force arrived to check. In the middle of the rice field, a hole about 1m deep and 2m wide appeared.
According to the local camera, no one was coming back from the rice fields and suddenly caused a loud explosion. Hearing the explosion, people in the house right next to the rice fields panicked and ran to the field.
Mr. Dung said that the area where the explosion occurred was rice fields, and people had been cultivating many crops for many years.
"It is not yet known whether the explosion was caused by trace bombs or flies from another place. The commune police are coordinating with authorities to verify the cause" - Mr. Dung informed.
It is known that in Quang Tri province, there are many areas of land contaminated with bombs and mines after the war.
