On October 27, the People's Committee of Khanh Hoa province has a plan to manage fishing vessels with the largest length of less than 6 meters and vessels serving aquaculture activities, in order to strictly implement the provisions of the Law on Fisheries and regulations related to combating illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing in the province.
The goal of the plan is to strictly manage all fishing vessels and aquaculture vehicles in the area, ensuring 100% are counted, listed and have management numbers attached in accordance with regulations.
Accordingly, the People's Committees of communes and wards in the province are responsible for reviewing, counting, establishing monitoring books and managing fishing vessels under 6 meters in length as well as vessels serving aquaculture activities.
The issuance of ship management numbers is carried out according to the principle of unification throughout the province, including three groups of characters separated by cross-section markings.
For fishing vessels under 6 meters: The first group of letters is the abbreviation of commune and ward names; followed by three consecutive digits (001-999); finally the two letters "TS".
For example: NL-001-TS (fishing boat of Dai Lanh commune), BNH-001-TS (fishing boat of Bac Ninh Hoa commune).
For aquaculture vessels: Similar structure, but the end consists of three words NTS.
For example: CLI-001-NTS (a ship serving aquaculture in Cam Linh ward).
The list of acronyms of communes and wards is specifically specified in Appendix 3 issued with this plan.
To ensure effective implementation, Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee requires departments, branches, sectors, People's Committees of communes, wards and related units to closely coordinate in inspection, guidance and supervision of implementation.
Localities must organize a review of the number of fishing vessels, establish a management database, issue vehicle registration certificates, instruct ship owners to register, manage and supervise the numbering in accordance with regulations.
Along with that, the province requires strengthening propaganda work in local newspapers, radio and television so that fishermen clearly understand and strictly comply with vehicle registration and numbering.
This is to ensure control of all fishing vessels operating in the area, contributing to preventing illegal fishing (IUU), aiming to remove the "yellow card" of the European Commission (EC) in the coming time.
